You're a pleasant fellow.
I can't blame the seller for ignoring you, given your confrontational attitude towards the world. Karma dude.

I miss PMs all the time. If it was just one, give him another ping. A month is a long time, but if it slipped his mind it doesn't matter if it's a day or a year. A reminder is warranted.

who knows.

It used to be that when people bought anything they understood used was used (lots can happen in the lifetime of used) but still functional

And if they had concerns they asked, or inspected or paid for an inspection.

now, people assume if you are selling something it must be perfect, not simply that it works.

and stainless exhaust as an example was just a solution to rusting out prematurely, but now it is seen as jewelry
I think this goes out the window when porsches and their parts cost and worth is a considerable amount. I see this quite often with many porsche individuals. They acquired the car and/or parts when they weren't worth a whole lot so therefore they don't value them to be a whole lot, then they skyrocketed in value and want to cash in on said value but don't think any damage and condition rules apply. Perfect case of having ones cake and eating it too.

Yeah...seller definitely put his best foot forward on those pics. Semi-thumbnail size, which means you can kind of see the repair, but then again he only took a close-up (and not that close) of the good one.

Some of you guys mansplaining to ADD need to check yourselves.

To the mansplaining poster, I was responding to the original question.

They don't look that bad at all, but should have been disclosed.

Why not ask for better pics?

Should have. Stupidly trusted people would not try to pull BS on this forum, since there is a barrier to entry in the 911 market.

My 1989 3.2 ex-track car came with 1.75" b&b headers and muffler - overkill for a street car, maybe ok for a track car? Anyway, the muffler was a POS, which seems par for the course for b&b mufflers - the headers are generally regarded as pretty good, the muffler - not so much. I sold the headers and went stock Porsche heat exchangers & cat, with an M&K.

Long story, I know - I sold the headers for $500, and threw the muffler in the garbage.

It looks like from your original WTB post you wanted 1 5/8", but you bought the 1.75" set for $1700.

The seller seems like a very highly regarded Porsche guy. You initiated the transaction by posting a want to buy, and then you bought.

Maybe he should have disclosed the welds - it looks like you can see the welds in his pics.

The headers are worth ~$500, the muffler - very little.

Maybe he owes you a few bucks? but not much.

Just a guy talkin'

If you can find me another set of headers with heat boxes for $500, please let me know.

Yeah, I would have asked for better pictures if that's all that was offered. I also would download them and blow them up before I asked. But it's really easy to say that after the fact.

Mark tends to be a pretty straight shooter. I'm not going to stick up for him though. If you want this thread to actually warn people, it should be in the FS forum. Most people who shop for parts here do NOT come into our little cesspool here.

I received it a month ago, started polishing the primaries, then got to the other side and noticed that 2 of the 3 primaries ahve been cut out and rewelded in a new section. Dude obviously hit something.

I was kind of pissed, and sent him a message saying "Dude, you could have told me you hit something and these are repaired".

I think they're usable, but I would have offered less. Anybody else dealt with this guy? Pretty bummed that he didn't disclose this. I don't have much disposable income; my student loans are almost $600/month, the rest goes to the mortgage, so when I do buy parts for my 911 it's a very rare occurrence.

What say you?
If he had told you about the repairs, would you have still bought them for $1700 if he didn't lower his price? Do the repairs affect performance? Can you just polish them as is? Will you be showcasing the exhaust at car shows (serious question..not a joke)? I understand your frustration but was it a good deal when compared to new? Not that I agree with the seller, he should have disclosed it but once on the car and the rumble of the exhaust kicks...you might just forget all about it

I think it happens pretty frequently (either a seller is blind and/or oblivious to flaws or they simply do not believe that slipping something by someone, in the name of making a few extra bucks, is a bad way to operate). More than ten years ago, I bought a Garretson intercooler from someone here - some of those intercooler end tanks were cast with a flat, square shaped spot so that a company could put their badge on their (Andial, etc., selling a Garretson-made unit and then calling it their own), well some ham fisted meathead partially ground off the flat surface (aka - looked like shiit), and the seller did not mention that (I don't think there was a pic of that area, either). When I got it, I was pretty surprised by the ugly, but used my trusty air grinder, and many hours of work, to blend that area so it was no longer visible at all (rounded it, just like the rest of the surrounding surface). Had I not been able to do that myself, it would have cost plenty to have a machine shop make it look good.

It definitely irks me when people pull that crap when selling something.

Im not familiar with that brand header but the welds look to be TIG and of reasonable quality, at least the closest one you can see clearly. The tubing looks to be the same on either side of the welds. Im wondering if they were cut and welded to match up with the muffler system? Possibly made a mistake with the middle tube, or had a blow out when welding it up originally and they chose to weld in a section to repair?

Regardless, I would check the inside of the tubes for the weld quality with a boroscope to see if the weld is clean and fairly smooth.

If it looks good inside, IMO there is nothing wrong with their functionality. A little work with a Roloc disk and you should be able to make those weld nearly vanish.

The guy should have disclosed that IF he knew it was repaired, but this seems pretty minor if the inside of the tubes are clean.
