First thing I do is remove the fronts and replace the rears with black chrome bumperetts. The ugly rubber ďboobsĒ were a stopgap measure to meet the bumper requirements in the USA only. Euro models didnít have these. Porsche wasnít the only victim. Look at the 240Z and the XKE around this time. Ugly ugly. Iíve got no good use for them, unless your going for full concourse. They do make good boat bumpers.

Yea, another victim of the times. I don’t think any manufacturer had much notice, looking at how they complied. Band aid compliance at best.

Wow. Great thread about another time long, long ago when Government stepped in and forced change.
Looks like the 911 was the easiest car to reverse the band-aide fixes. That MGB is fuuugly.

^^^

It is truely amazing how people in general desperately want to be told what to do, otherwise we wouldn't stand for nonsense (not just talking about bumpers that look like they were designed by a six year old).

Chrome backdate on a 914 is easy and common.

I bet that is probably an easy fix too.
I really tried to get my son into a 914 or 944 for his first car. Mainly because I wanted an excuse to own/build either one. My oldest brother had a couple different 914's through the 80's. Probably why I like them.

It’s a Volkswagen that handles like a Porsche. What’s not to love?
