911 Targa Estimated Value

Hello Everyone,
I'm looking for your option on my car's market value.

Here's a small bit of background:
1984 911 Targa with 3.2 engine, 5 speed manual trans, no LSD rear end.
Engine has never been rebuilt, no head work either. Engine runs great, passes CA smog check every time. 401,000 plus on engine.
Body was recently repainted in original Guards Red.
Interior is in good condition.
Body is straight.

Let me know your thoughts on what you think my car's value is.
Thanks
Larry

With that mileage some leak down and compression numbers might help zero in on a number. Burn much oil?

Doesn't burn much oil. This car will pass CA smog without any issue.
I don't know exactly how much oil it burns, maybe a quart every 2k?

I don't follow the market all that closely, but my guess is 33K-35K. Looks to be in very good shape given the mileage but no AC and the interior looking a bit tired further detracts from the price. Good luck.

How many of those miles did you put on it? It’s a “niche” buyer, but I think it’s a cool car. Not many in the 400k club. I would assume the buyer is figuring they will have to rebuild it eventually, and then try to get to 500k before doing it.

$40k.

My son has an '88 coupe with over 300K that runs great and doesn't leak. His car has gotta be worth $45K-50K. Yours IMO is worth $30-35K.

There are a lot of people out there who want inexpensive 911's. This sounds like a great starting point for someone who is handy.

Going to need engine work so I say $30,000. Top end at least $12,000. Full rebuild, at least $25,000.

Thank for your input.
I put about 306,000 miles on it. I bought the car with roughly 95,000 on it.

The man knows how to care for a car, that's for sure. Good for you.

$38k - $40k

Complete car. Do all the basic / checks and services and drive it more until rebuild is necessary.

You’ve kept it real nice, but no LSD or G50 and many many miles I think you’d be real pressed to get 30.

You put a running, driving 84 Targa with a 3.2 that doesn't leak and will pass CA emissions in the classifieds for $30K here and it'll sell in a day, regardless of the 400K miles.

Like others have noted, the car appears like you took great care of it!

How about spending ~3K to install a new carpet and the original radio, along with ice blasting the undercarriage, and then you can sell it on BAT for $50K . …of course you will need reasonable leakdown and compression numbers.

To add to Nick's comment:

I just sold an '82 911SC Slantnose Project for $30k

This 400k mile car is easily worth north of $30k

Another way to spin it - what if this was a 120k mile car when the speedo broke "true miles unknown" like so many of these air-cooled cars? Everyone would disregard the miles (yes the owner could still guestimate average use but let's be real) and just focus on overall condition and maintenance - which looks decent with this one!
