AdamLZ Mint Green 964... But there's a catch is a Tiptronic
https://youtu.be/WIUG7JyM8Q4?si=QU-Oc86GVgYobhOq
Don't really follow this YouTuber but I am seeing more YTers acquire air-cooled Porsches... Love this mint green 964 but it's a tiptronic. How many of you would pass on this 5 bucket super rare color due to it being an automatic if it was a good deal? I'm really torn... It looks like his plan is to swap the trans to a manual.

I guess it depends on how much money it costs in parts to swap it to manual. and how much of a headache it is to do on the electronics side.

Such a shame. Great color, especially on that car, but couldn't stomach the tip.

With what Singer has done to the market for those parts, it will cost $15-20k. Not much electronics headache.

I would love to know what he paid for it.
Even with tip, this thing was not 'cheap' but compared to the other cars he came across, it must have met the budget. Looking forward to the build. Definitely lots of YouTuber's jumping on the air-cooled train.

Is that just parts or is that parts and labor. My guess is just parts. And as I'm sure you know any used parts you buy are suspect at this age. so its likely that a trans would need a rebuild. then whatever else goes with the "while were in there" syndrome. I guess what I am getting at is it would have to be a screaming deal on the car to make it make sense. Id probably choose a good manual in a non red color before I did this. I know what I am like for speed of projects and things of that nature.

Lots of updates on this car in the last few months on his Youtube channel, and it is now officially even more awesome with a manual gearbox and a fully built badass 4.0L engine...

Love the color, as I get older and all the damage to my knees catching up, I’d take a Tip. The way these have skyrocketed, I very much regret not grabbing a black cab a friend offered me for around $8K, ran good, looked good too.

I have no issue with the tip manually shifted I prefer a manual but a well set up tip can be a fun ride. It also pulls like freight train with the 4 gears. He used a 993 RoW trans so maybe he got a deal but I have seen people pay $20-25k for them especially if it is in good working order with LSD. Labor is easily $15k probably more but he is doing it himself.
Very entertaining watching him learn about these cars. He truly has very little clue in the beginning. Nice to have ebay sponsor the build I am sure it will be just as expensive as finding a nice unique colored low mile 964 when he is done.

I dont think I have ever saw a Porsche do as many launchs from standing start as on his channel. Its hard to watch. I mean there is no way a two valve per cylinder air cooled will go up against a 2JZ with a big turbo. Just saying

If you want a fast 964 you need to do a bit more than what he is doing. I am building another track car with a Twin turbo 993 engine and 993 short ratio box. The prior engine had 330 whp and 2650 pounds. It was already faster than a 991.2 GT3 the new engine is creeping up as we add more boost and is now at 400 rwhp on the mustang expecting closer to 600. I will settle on about 400+ rwhp for most driving as it will be more car than I can imagine and I have driven some very fast cars. Initial pulls are at cobalt_965 on IG. The car pulls from 2k rpms to 7k in under 5s with a very flat curve and should be great for both street and track but this will be a dedicated track car.

[QUOTE=Cobalt;12383467]No doubt. That is not what these cars are about but he got us to watch. I should have started a pod cast or something years ago. So few of these guys have a clue to what these cars are about and how to properly drive or work on them. It is all info we posted decades ago that everyone is trying to repurpose and use for their monetary gains.
We are both members since 2003-2004 There are so many talented people on this forum . Thing is we seemed to have priced our selves out of the game. Now that were old and don't have a You tube channel we really cant afford to do the things that we used to do. |
