Well done guys!

This board is great! I used to lurk here several years ago, but didn't remember my SN from back then. Now that Porsche fever has hit, I joined again.
First, I see you guys sniffing out cars with inconsistencies in authenticity and alerting others to it. Then I see the 914 community willing to help the guy that crashed his 914 today. It's good to be here. |
|
Ok, well new developments have occured. I read over on the S board (linked above) that the Fantasy Junction guys are seriously troubled, and have contacted teh owner, who was "Not happy". But...and this is when it gets.."Interesting"...they decided that there was enough dubiousness that they called in the CHP first thing this morning.
I wonder if the guy wishes he just sold it short on eBay now! |
The CHP has some very good investigators that can tell if the engine number boss has been restamped as well as the rest of the car's numbers. Hopefully they will send the experts rather than the novices
If the seller has indeed bought a fake, he is most likely to lose the car (and his money) while he then gets to go prosecute the seller in germany. Sad deal all around |
Gentlemen,
The CHP folks were not as useful as we'd hoped, but they did point out that the car has US DOT glass, which is odd for the car having been imported a year ago. Bottom line is that it looks like they won't be taking any drastic actions unless they have reason to believe the car has been stolen. I forwarded their contact info to a Porsche authority and I imagine that he'll be contacting them. As for us, it's been an enormous headache, and in the interest of business, we're trying to wash our hands of this and move on to actually selling cars! The owner is collecting the car and until he tries to sell again, looks like you all have saved the Porsche world from a fate worse than death...again. Thanks again for all your help and sharpness. Derek |
He's emailing that high bidder on ebay right now tryign to slap that bid.
|
Well, if nothing else it will be nice to have the owners arrogant attitude knocked down a notch or two. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
'Wanna be collectors' indeed! He has a lot of nerve.... Hats off to you Derek! THATS the way to handle yourself and your business will prosper because of it. |
LEt's give him the benefit of the doubt - he doesn't know who we or the Early 911S people are -- he doesn't realize there are several owners of real RS on the boards.

Real Rs #406 In Australia.
I am the owner of the real RS#406 in Australia, and have just spent two hours reading this very detailed thread. I was aware there was some discussion of my car , but did not realise how detailed it was. I thought it might be valuable to update you all with the current situation.
WHICH CAR IS THE REAL #406 I have prepared a very thorough document discussing my car and the fake car. It is too large to put on this Forum, but I would be happy to e-mail it to anyone interested, particularly if you have any doubts that my car is the original #406. It relies heavily on information from members of Pelican and Early S, consolidated in one easy to follow document. WHY DIDN'T THE AUSTRALIAN OWNER RESPOND WHEN ASKED TO PROVIDE DOCUMENTATION ON HIS CAR. The car was advertised in e-bay but sold directly to Nat La Rosa in Australia by a Japanese broker, Jun Sato in early 2005. We now know that the Doctor selling the fake RS had contacted Sato, and threatened to sue him if he said the fake car was a fake. Sato did not disclose to La Rosa that there was another RS claiming to be 406. When TRE , Fryardds and others asked Sato to make contact with the owner in Australia, he did not pass on this request to La Rosa. We later asked Sato why, and he said he did not want to get involved- "you know how Americans like to sue "etc [ although Doctor is German, he was in California ] La Rosa had no idea this discussion was going on, and I discovered it on the Early S forum last January, after I bought the car. I have a lot of business dealings with Japan and know Japanese will do almost anything to avoid conflict. They are usually very honest in any business arrangement. Mr Sato is clearly not a typical Japanese. THE DOCTOR SELLING THE CAR MAY BE THE INNOCENT DUPE OF A PREVIOUS FRAUDSTER. He says in the e-bay summary that his father was the second owner of the car, but it was sold, and he "bought it back several years ago" This may explain why he appears to have some of the original documentation for the car. I have documentary proof from the Japanese registration authorities that my #406, was continuously registered in Japan from August 1977 to March 2005. A copy of this document is attached to my summary. In summary, the car in California has a forged Vin #, engine #, chassis plate , paint code plate and production #. There are many other items on this car that are not correct for a touring 73 RS. I am indeed very fortunate that I bought the real #406; that whoever created the fake car did such a crap job of replicating the numbers; and particulary that there is such a dedicated group of Porsche experts, Fryardds, TRE, CurtEgerer and others, prepared to spend considerable time and effort to hunt down these fakes. I have owned 22 Porsches including a RHD RS #495, two 993RS's, two GT3's and a number of race cars. As Australia is very hot, I am considering leaving out the front centre panel an installing an oil cooler- appreciate any thoughts on the most suiable and correct cooler to fit. Below is a shot the car in restoration a few months ago. I am still 3/4 months away from completion. Hi David,
You do indeed have the real RS #406. I do hope to lay eyes on your finished car some day in person but until then be sure to send lots of photos when it is done. Also don't spray undercoating all over the car or we may not be able to tell the difference between your car and Anton's fake one.;):D |
Back from the Dead......SmileWavy
-What ever happened with the fake #406?? |
I have not seen or heard of it since the last time it surfaced. I'm on the lookout for it though and I'm sure the owner didn't destroy it or part it out so it will be back in public at some point I'm sure.:(
In the meantime maybe we can have David post up some progress photos of the ongoing restoration of the real 406.:) |

Who Is this Dr Anton guy?
|
Dr Anton is the owner of a fake copy of my RS #406.
The car was first offered by a dealer in Germany in 2005, and the link below discusses. Fake 2.7RS in Germany He then bought it to California and first tried to sell it on e-bay, then at Fantasy Junction. He had a running fight with the RS Police on Pelican and Early911s in 2006 about obvious issues with his car. The Police were called to Fantasy Junction and he hurriedly withdrew the car, however we were fortunate that Fantasy Junction took dozens of photos of the car which I have in my posession. They highlight all the issues and are invaluable in proving it is a fake. I am happy to e-mail copies of these photos with comments, to anyone interested. Dr Anton registered the e-bay user ID Early911sregistry some years ago, assume in retaliation for exposure of his car. As far as I know, the Registry has been unsucessful getting e-bay to cancel the ID. The real RS #406 has just completed a 6 year restoration in Australia, and preliminary images from the Porsche Club Concours can be seen on The Rolling Road: All Porsches great and small |
