It may be useful to place the eBay photos of the fake 406 (whichever one it is) under "Registry of Questionable Cars" on www.carrerarsregistry.com

The listing will come in handy for someone in the future. Who can do this?

TRE Cup 06-28-2006 11:04 AM

don - the owner of the site- but lets wait till 1) the car gets inspected by tim and 2) see if we hear from the owner of the real 406, in austria, and get further proof

austin552 06-28-2006 11:13 AM

Tim?

Huh 06-28-2006 11:35 AM

If she weighs the same as a duck then she's..........*pregnant pause*

A WITCH!!!!!!!

so should we weigh the seller against a duck?

kenikh 06-28-2006 11:38 AM

Oh Geez, this always happens. It takes just one Grail reference to derail a thread... :D

Huh 06-28-2006 11:59 AM

We have to entertain ourselves until the real information comes. Can't sit on the edge of my seat waiting...

87coupe 06-28-2006 12:05 PM

She turned me into a newt.
A newt?
long pause ... I got better.
Burn her anyway!!!

Jays72T 06-28-2006 12:15 PM

Nice catch Curt, this is good information when looking at an early car.

Was just looking at this site. If Tim sees something like this: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1151526000.jpg

then its time to get ready to burn at the stake! Just love the way they "X'ed" out the original serial number and put a new one in. You just know that Porsche did it this way??!!

kenikh 06-28-2006 12:24 PM

Why wouldn't they just weld it over and use a die grinder? More proof that most criminals are idiots.

nesslar 06-28-2006 12:28 PM

Certifiable, yes, but not "Porsche ceritified"......
Good work, peoples, as my little boy used to say.
Rivoting! :D

}{arlequin 06-28-2006 12:42 PM

hey, so it seems that i missed the "original 406" car thread. is it on pelican or maybe earlys? sounds like it would be fun reading...

thanks

kenikh 06-28-2006 01:13 PM

There are parallel threads here, on the Early S and on Rennlist. This car is getting ROASTED.

Dr. Andreas Anton 707-431-2239

What kind of Dr do you suppose he is?

Great thread - it would appear that the good doctors' pants are on fire.

kenikh 06-28-2006 01:21 PM

Proctologist.

In fairness, I wouldn't want to accuse anyone of purposely trying to sell a fake car. It is likely that he thinks the car is real and HE is the one who got scammed last year when he bought it in Germany.

randywebb 06-28-2006 02:03 PM

Yes, that could well be true.

Maybe you can let us know if you think he is just a guy who thinks it is real or if he is really trying to fraudlently pass it off to someone.

After all, someone who knew little about Porses or cars in general, would not know who the people are or their qualifications or expertise that are telling him it is not a real one.

He just sees a bunch of people (in 3 different forums) on the internet. We could all be hateful teenagers. (Actually, there are times when I would like to become a hateful teenager....)

That is funny my co-workers use the same part from that movie on me a few times. But really I don't look like that.

Another note. He told me Financing for the car was possible. I thought this was weird.
He said he was an Art dealer so he referenced back to art sales verses the 911 a couple times. Don't know how the DR. part comes in.

Thanks for the pics and reference material, made myself a little spreedsheet of the numbers and locations. I hope he does let me take pics but will be pen and paper too.
CBeers I think he does accounting stuff, is going with me so if all fails he gets to crawl under the car :)

jester911 06-28-2006 02:09 PM

If he didn't know it was a fake he would be more than forthcoming with info on this car. Lets face it. Anyone with a real RS would be more than proud of the car, not to mention the more info put forth the more it would sell for.

Dutchie 06-28-2006 02:17 PM

He says he posted the mercedes papers by mistake and that HE sold that mercedes. Funny because in the german add they use the same mercedes paper. Hard to see but look at the tires description 7.25 x 13 continental same like in the ebay ad.
