TruSpeed 1981 SC for sale
Good morning everyone. I have been looking for a MINT SC.
On ebay there is a 1981 SC Chiffon White/Brown leather with 33,000 original miles. TruSpeed located in Costa Mesa, California is the entity that is selling the car. I was wondering if any Board members have dealt with these guys and also is anyone close enough to go and take a look at the car for me. I am located in Houston, Texas and would do the same for you, if you ever needed it. Please let me know your thoughts on this dealer and if anyone could get by and see the car in person. thanks and have a GREAT day. Tom |

TruSpeed is know for selling quality cars at a premium. They allow PPI done off site, and have helped buyers out when problems have come out. I have heard stories of rebuilding engines, and replacing clutches. They want to keep a good name in the market place.
I am going to be over that way on Thursday if you want me to take a look. What are they asking for the car?

TruSpeed is a decent organization. Bought my speed yellow C4S there at this time last year. If you want a solid car at a "reasonable" price then you should use them. They run a TON of volume and it's not because they overcharge. Owned by a group of guys that buy 100% of their own inventory. They aren't a consignment shop and as such, would rather move the cars than keep them. You may speak with Fabian. Shawn A. Mesaros

I went down to Truspeed to look at this car and it is beautiful! Its previous owner was the owner of the local Porsche dealership. It appeared to be very pampered and driven little. The interior is like new and the paint is very nice. I did not here it run as it was enclosed in the showroom but was assured it was perfect. The major problem I saw was the price! They wanted $32000 and the reserve will probably be very high for this model. They had some very nice cars in the showroom and they all appeared to be top notch.
Hope this helps.

I also went to see this car yesterday, it was very nice.
The last owner put on a clearbra, so the front end was in nice shape, a few ouches, and the one raised dent. A little detail work to the engine, and replacement of stickers, you would have a great survivor car on your hands. Michael

I am afraid that they will also get it, to many people have more money than brains.

Yep,
$ 32,000! They specialize in those that have big dough. You should see the 356 they have over there. It was only $ 162,000! It was nice and came with two motors (one rebuilt installed, one original rebuilt in a crate). The sales guy had a buyer coming in from out of town to look at it. That is a lot of green backs. Was it worth that kind of money? Only the buyer knows for sure.

apparently still available, too.... but someone can probably buy it for say, $3K less than asking... just that really, where else will you find an incredible original car like this? a collector might want it... or let's face it... what ELSE can you buy today and put 300,000 miles on without tearing into the motor??? I mean really, the cool-factor here versus a Toyota and with great performance.... and only ONE fan-belt to change...

So how nice is the burgundy 1996TT Truspeed has?
I'd love to drive her home...if only she were in the mid-70's. Last edited by ebattalio; 07-06-2006 at 12:21 PM.. |

you do not, I repeat.... DO NOT want a "cheap" TT. it's likely to cost you $20k in misc. repairs.... Tires.... $750.00 per pair.... brakes.... $2500 for the job, minimum fronts and rears.... suspension.... another $2000 for shocks and coilovers and then (of course) clutch and pressure plate.... could be $3000 or more depending.... and of course there are those oil changes.... $350 minimum each time.... so the point is simple... save the money and buy the quality up front. at least you can enjoy the car and set aside dinero for what will be necessary later instead of buying a $55k TT's that could possibly need a lot of work. ($20k in engine work is not uncommon depending on how the car was treated and the thing will be so STRONG you won't believe it.... but when that day arrives, it will cost you) There's an AWESOME C2 (or two) in these posts that's available in the $40's without issue and very low mileage in one case. Check those before spending too little on a VERY complex machine that in the end might not really do the trick. FYI ~ a 1991 to 1993 Turbo that has lower mileage and a 1-bar spring (as an upgrade) and then install a free-flowing exhaust and you will normally SMOKE a stock 993-TT with the right driver. You get around 375 RWHP with that kind of setup and unbelievable reliability.
