to me it shows some signs of recent neglect, but some of the parts of the restoration were not cheap
i think this guy is at least the second owner, and he did not take care of it. however if its baught for under 10, it can be fixed up into a neat bastard :P

It may be a bit rough around the edges but I think for what it is you could get it fixed up nicer in short order and repair as you enjoy her. I would never buy it, but its definetly somebodys car.

Work in Progress
|
This car is a prime example of making a crappy car look good in an ad. If you don't take pictures of the bad sections and back far enough away then everything looks peachy. If you look at the 20 page thread on this car recently you'll see a fair amount of lousy bondo work, and things like that. It is one of those teaser cars, you think it looks fair but when you start diggin a little bit all you will do is find one serious problem after another. That is the WORST way to own a 911, and I know from experience! I'm not saying that the car should go to the wrecking yard, but you would have to pay the right amount for the car. At 3500 it might be an ok deal, at 10K it is a really really bad deal. If you are interested in the car I would highly recommend going and looking at it in person.

At least he got the 'E' part right. Before, he referred to it as an 'S'. And he got the aubergine color from me, because at first I told him I thought it was aubergine before I knew about lilac, and he told me he didn't know what the color was called.

Katie, there are plenty of 911s' out there. take you time and find one that is in really good shape, don't get hung up on one car. take your time and find the right one.
when I found mine, I knew right away that is was the right one for me, I knew the guy who owned it, I trusted him and he had all the records. He had it stored away for 22 years in a barn, there was no rust, it was completely original and I believed the mileage, 35k, when I bought it. It took me a long time to find the right one, just keep your eyes open and ask around, you might be amazed who has one for sale and where you will find one.

While you are laughing....please explain what is going on as we type. The car has hit 12k. It appears 1 bidder has pushed the car from7k. This befuddles me.

I don't like the "new way" ebay is doing things. You can't check history on a bidder - see what they've bid on, bought or sold and from/to whom.
If ebay think this new method was going to discourage fraudulent activity then they got it wrong. Much easier for shill bidders now... But I am yet to believe those last 3 bids were shill bidding...only ever takes one idiot and this bidder may be the one. Still has days to go - maybe the deal won't even go through. It could all be posturing - but seriously; who the hell cares?! It's a BAD car....that's all that matters. |

You're being saved and you don't know it. This car is horrid. Have you run the numbers on this car? It needs a full restoration. $3500 Theoretical purchase of car (based on above posts) $5000 New interior. Seats, door panels, dash, carpet, headliner, etc. $10,000 New early motor $2500 Transmission rebuild $5000 Paint work $2000 Body work $2000 Suspension and brake work $1000 Tires and rims $2000 Stuff you don't even know is wrong yet That's $33,000 for this restoration IF, and that's a big IF, you could get the car for $3500. It's at $12k so that isn't gonna happen. You can buy a really nice long hood for $33,000 and have a car still worth $33k. You can spend $33k on this car and still have a stories car that is only worth $15k... The math speaks for itself. I've been down this road before and it's not pretty. One of the first 911's I ever looked at was a aubergine 911SC. My God, it was gorgeous and I HAD to have that car. While test driving it, I got more stares on that car than any 911 I've driven. I talked myself out of it because it needed SO much work. You can't buy these things on passion alone if you have a limited budget. I understand your lust for this color, but, as we've been saying for a long time on this subject, just pass this pile up and move on to something that is much nicer right up front. Good luck, Jay My 911's Last edited by Jay H; 03-14-2007 at 04:34 PM.. |
