Value of 3.2 engine?
 

Can anyone tell me what a used Carrera 3.2 engine is going for these days? I'm thinking about doing a motor swap instead of rebuilding mine, and my decision will hinge on how much I can sell my 3.2 for.

A few details about the motor:
1984, 185k miles, never opened. Complete records after 1988.
Runs strong (just dynoed at 195 whp)
Doesn't smoke
Looks like it weeps some oil (engine is damp in a few spots), but doesn't drip at all.
I haven't measured oil consumption, but it seems fine. I'd guess about a quart every 1000 miles.

I've done some searching here, but it seems most people won't talk prices on the board, only through PM or email. I saw one with similar mileage go fairly quickly at $4000, so I'm expecting numbers a bit north of that figure.

I sold my 3.2L with 210K about 4 years ago. It was running good but had some oil leaks. I sold it for $3800

4 years later... any thoughts on what a running core 3.2 motor is worth these days? (the leak disappeared)

Is it worth more in pieces or together?

Your #2 cylinder leakdown indicates that a top end rebuild is imminent. Without the DME and related electronics, which it sounds like you need to keep, I think a core 3.2 is worth around $3k.
