04 gt3 purchase
Hello all,
I have come here looking for advice on the purchase of an 04 gt3, that's $51,000. The car is immaculate, no accidents, no paintwork, perfect interior, a little rock spray on the nose), and it's a blk/blk car. Simple question...this car has 20k mi., 5k of which have been on a track (not raced, no roll bar), how many miles am I giving up in street miles at let's say 4,000rpm's with minimal pounding abuse, (can you even do that in one of these?) In other words, I figure these 5k mi. have been spent at 6k-7k rpm's, do you think that is too much abuse to consider for a long term driver? I'm trying to equate track miles into street driven miles, 5k track = ? street miles. Plus considering clutch abuse and anything else that might be verrry expensive to fix too soon, let alone the $33k motor!! New tires, brake pads, rotors and recent service have been performed. Normally I would not buy a car that has been tracked, but these cars are hard to find with relatively low miles unless they are in the high $50-$60,000's. I will use this as a driver for about 6k miles a year. Thank you for your help. (I will also be selling a 97 blk/blk c2s, 30k miles, not the least bit abused) |
Buy it!
I spent well over 60k for mine 10 months ago and it had about 7k miles on it. These cars are incredible! If you pass on this car let me know as I might be interested in picking up another one as a daily driver and preserving my lower miled one. These WILL be collector cars in the future. MUCH lower production numbers than the current models and a far more "raw" car with no electric nannies. I think you will be hard pressed to find another with low miles like that one at that price. At theat price most have much more miles. The track does not hurt these cars as long as they have not been in an accident. You can probably get an extended warranty on it if you are concerned. I did and it cost just under 3k for another 50,000 miles/5 years. Quote:

I'd agree. That's a fair price for a good car.
I wouldn't over analyze the mileage driven on the track. You may be way over-estimating the time spent near red-line. Most GT3 owners I know don't come anywhere close to pushing these cars to their limits. Anyway the car is built to be used. Get a PPI from somebody that knows the GT3. Have the car checked for "over-revs". If you are unsure what is meant by "over-revs" you will find a lot on the subject on the Rennlist GT3 forum. And be sure to have a good body man look over the car. Closely. A fair number of these cars have been damaged at the track... it's a lot of car in the hands of a novice. One other observation/caution. I've been told by owners that these cars are not great street cars. They're low and you have to be very careful where you drive them. Good luck. :) |
Thanks for both replies.
What co. does the extended warranties, sounds like a good idea? I'm really interested in the over-revving situation, I went and searched rennlist but couldn't find a thread regarding it, I'm sure it's just my hunting skills. Would you happen to have bookmarked one? And I should have already been on the PPI, but this is going fast. Is anyone in Dallas that can reccomend a shop or individual who can do one? Thanks again. Ruff and raw, that's what I'm looking forward to, just like the 73rs, probably more so. |
The Rennlist 6GT3 forum is very active ... several owners there from the Dallas area. They will be able to help on the of the over-rev search as well as recommend a shop.

A buddy of mine just sold his in January for $60,000 with 40k miles. Grey on black.

This looks to be a very clean 1 on ebay for $47k

That is one ugly GT3! No offense but not exactly a good looking example. That interior is pretty tough to look at. Much better off paying 10k more and getting a much lower mileage "stock" GT3...

This is what you should be looking for. A few bucks more and you will get a miuch lower mileage that looks as as GT3 should. This one is sold but thetre are always others. Best advise is to be patient. It took me almost a year to find the right car for the right deal.

The interior is not all that bad other than the custom steering wheel. I am not certain if they came with those gray sport seats but that should not detract from its value since they are oem sport seats and looks in great shape. Carrera decals are just decals. Mileage is a bit high but $47k is not written in stone.

Got Away
While I was getting the over-rev scan organized they sold it, not exactly out from under me, but pretty close! Agreed to $51k, agreed to PPI the next day, then sold it overnight, I guess, without coming back to me...dealers:(!
Most importantly, I appreciated the over-rev advice that I got from here, thank you guys. It led to a very informative talk with the wrench who took care of the car (very good care), and it was an extremely good deal. Hopefully the new owner will pop up on here. I saw the red one for sale, also a smoking deal, but I live in a low-key area and the fuzz swarm to the sight of a bright red Porsche/Ferrari/etc. winding it out through the twisty hills. Well, now that few more have chimed in on the location of a couple of these, would you all keep your eyes out for another one. I look in all the obviuos places (ebay, autotrader, rennlist, PP, 911s regs., now 6spdonline), but maybe someone knows a guy who knows a guy.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat2.gif Again, thanks for all the input. (And a few bucks more is fine for the right car.) |
