Need a little help
Has anyone heard a 1978 SC ( Autobahn Special)? It supposidly wasnt made for the US market and has the 9 digit German Vin and is a red coupe. Any idea on price? Thank you in advance. |
1978 911SC's had ten digit VINs, starting with "911" (model), "8" (model year 1978), the fifth digit denoted "engine" (2=911SC USA, 3=911SC RoW, 7=Turbo RoW, 8+Turbo USA), sixth digit body style (0=coupe, 1=Targa), last 4 digits are build number in sequential order.
Would love to hear more about autobahn specials and 9-digit VINs, though. I expect someone is trying to sell it to you... Cheers d. |
Exactly, the guy wants to sellme the vehicle. Nice shape and all and the conversation has been to long to recall the vin numbers or how many. I couldnt find any relative information about an autobahn special.

Sounds like a bit of a "selling ploy" to justify a premium price tag/and or motivate a buyer...
"This ain't no normal 911, this here's an... ummm... 'autobahn special!' yeah, that's the ticket!" d. |
Pretty much took the words right out of my mouth. However, since I am new to this "Porsche" thought I thought I would ask. As I stated, I didnt see any reference's in any books of such a beast, but maybe that chapter was skipped crossed my mind.
On a side note, I was looking for a 87-88 Cab anyway. So that brings up another question. The choice seems to be Cabs vs Targa.....any huge difference or preference other than looks ? I use to have a 68 big blk conv and loved it, hence the reason I was leaning towards a Cab. |
Check the vin under the trunk carpet, near the hatch.. could have been "worn" off a bit from luggage rubbing on the carpet. Also compare vs the window vin placement and door jam placement.
The fact that the car could be a "euro" is not a big deal.. but "autobahn special" well, thats just silly. |
