Trade 72 911 for 3.2 cabrio
I've posted a feeler for a possible trade of my 72 911 for a 3.2 cabrio:
Feeler: trade 72 911 for 3.2 cabrio? If anyone has any comments, feel free to post!

Hi Christien, what size tires are you running, they fit and look perfect for a long hood with 15" rims.
Thanks Kevin

I *believe* they're 245/50 or 245/45s, but I could be wrong. They're Pirelli P6000s and came on the fuchs when I bought them. I've got a separate set of RA1s for the track, so I don't pay much attention to the street tires.
At first I thought the sidewall profile was too large, as they look a bit balloon-ish (especially with the car being Euro height) but when I've got the RA1s on (205/50 front, 225/50 rear) the RA1s don't really fill out the fender wells as well. edit: forgot to mention, they are probably about the maximum size I could fit in there. I've done a couple track events with the Pirellis, and I get a bit of tire rub on the right front (that's the only one). Nowhere near enough to damage the fender or the tire, but you can feel it.

Just sell your car and buy a cab in the US.
For 12-15k you'll get a good solid car like mine. What do you think your '72 would fetch? |

I won't get a Carrera cabrio for 15K - more like 20. According to Bruce Anderson's market valuation from about 6 months ago, my car is worth 19-20K. Would it fetch that in the current market? Maybe not right now because of everyone's fears of recession, but if I waited for the right buyer, yeah, I bet it would.
I'm considering a trade because 1. easier, 2. chance of paying less taxes, 3. don't want to be without a P-car, in case I sold and couldn't find what I was looking for.

You've seen my '84. $11,500 US two years ago. I am 100% sure you can get the same car, or better, for $15,000.
Now that I'm almost done fixing my 89 I expect I'll be selling my '84 to a co-worker, but it won't be for $20,000. I wish it was. |

1985 Carrera Cab
Okay, $20,000 but look at the mods... 1984 Cab Anyone asking $16k in winter will take $15k cash... 1990 964 C4 engine out, complete $19,000 for a C2? Why not? |

Those are all fine cars, but the 89 has the G50 transmission which is a big bonus, especially considering that the 911 sees daily driving duties, a lot of it in traffic. And to be honest, I'm really not a big fan of 964 styling. And it may sounds silly, but I'm holding out for the right colour combo.
If I do decide that I definitely want to do this, I may go ahead and sell, but that won't be at least until the summer after I've rebuilt the transmission (nobody's going to buy a car needing a tranny rebuild!).

Paul, you're killing me!!! The targa's out - just no interest, and I really do want the 3.2, but the one in Nashville is definitely tempting... The 91 C2 simply MUST have an untold story - salvage title or something. No way a good clean 91 cabrio should go for $14K.

I was also thinking the same thing. I really like the look or the early 911's but I really like the way mine drives... and like you have put a lot of work in my just in just a short amount of time. I may just go out and see if I can drive an early car and see if I like it. I was also going to thow out a "feeler" thread to see what people had out there.

I checked out this Targa two years ago, nice looking car, new carpet, paint was perfect, 1st and 2nd sycros replaced, new clutch all records and I think it was serviced by Millersport automotive in Hillsborough. He was asking $16,500 firm at the time and would not let me drive the car. Here is a nice Cab in my area http://Raleigh.craigslist.org/car/554969137.html ![]()

Well, to bring this thread back from 2 years ago, I'm getting that itch again. I can't explain why, but I'm started to really think hard about it again. To be honest, I searched for this thread to remind myself of why I didn't do it 2 years ago, because I thought I'd been talked out of it. Looks like I wasn't, I just lost interest. Well, now I'm getting interested again. I think one of the things I've held onto is that I don't want to regret selling the 72 - I'm starting to think that I'm holding on to that notion far too tightly.
I would only do it for a very specific car: guards red or black, nothing else, cabrio, natural (tan) leather interior, 84-89 (3.2 Carrera only) that would pass a PPI with no problems. Thoughts? Offers? Again, I reserve the right to get cold feet ![]()

Hi Christien,
If you are still thinking about it two years later I don't think you are going to get it out of your mind until you get a cab. I had a 85 coupe that I sold and am now considering getting back into the fold with a longhood. I think it is good to have some variety in life and you only live once, do what your gut tells you. Will you track the cab if you got one?

Well, I did stop thinking about it for quite a while. It's just that the urge has recently come back, with a surprising vengeance! A friend of mine said something similar to what you said - you only live once, and we should try to experience as many different things (or Porsches) as possible.
Yes, it would see the track. I can't imagine not tracking any Porsche I'll ever own, assuming it's safe. I don't drive at the track to get the best lap times, I drive at the track to enjoy my car (whatever that may be) the way it was meant to be driven. So even if I were driving a 356, a 944, or a 959, it'd see the track. Of course, the drive home from the track would be much more comfortable in a later car with a/c, better stereo, etc... ![]()

Well you can mark A/C off the list as a bonus if you get a 3.2L car

You can track a Cab. I track mine. You just need a removable roll bar and you're good to go.
