912 with 911 2.0....
I just looked at a 1966 912 that was converted to (I think) an early '67 911 (engine number 961884) aluminum 2.0 engine many years ago. It had a 5 speed transmission as well (unsure if it was the 5 speed 912 or a "swapped" 911 5 speed).
The chassis is fairly well beat and I'm sure I would have more $$ in it than it's worth (by a fair $$ amount) even if I located a proper 912 engine and rebuilt it as a correct '66 912. I searched for a while and found one thread that said "961xxx" was a 1967 2.0 case. The case did appear to be aluminum and it had Weber carbs, is there any way to identify it as an "S" engine? The guy said that the engine was rebuilt 5 years ago and it had a 2.3 (what the $#@!) liter crank.... It has good glass, decent 6x15" Fuchs (5), etc. I'm trying to see if it is worth the $4500.00 that the guy is asking. Sorry no pictures, just imagine a "normal" rusty, beat up '66 912 that needs a total restoration (also a cool Jackie Ickx Momo that needs recovering). I'm trying to see if I could part it and re-coup enough $$ to see if it's worth while, and if anybody needed that 911 2.0 engine in that serial# range. Thanks for any feedback. |
