Cheap 964
This car seems cheap. It is at a classic car dealer and the owner doesn't know much about Porsches.
Any thoughts? Does anyone know the name of the color? Old Car Trader - 1990 Porsche Carrera II ![]() |

964
I don't know the color code, but that looks like quite a car for the money. 964's (especially convertibles) were very expensive new, and usually had good care at least early in life.
The non-metallic blue is beautiful and it's a 5 speed (+). It appears to be in good condition from the video, mileage listed as "111," (111K I'd guess). If I was at retirement, I'd probably drive down to check it out. I would like a convertible, and I think they will start to appreciate a few years down the road. The biggest minus on early 964's is the lack of head gaskets and potential leaks. I understand they can be machined at accept head gaskets that were made standard on later models. |

Thanks guys. Sometimes I'm too slow and think too much for this game.

There was recently a similar car for sale here in So Cal. If your heart is set on a blue 964 cab, let me know and I'll try to chase down the (potential) seller.

Cabs tend to be a tough sale at the end of the season. In the 964 Catagory they seem to be below the tiptronic coupe as far as desirability..... My informal view of the US market...
Cup Car ($100,000+) #1 condition Speedster ($75,000 +) #1 condition Widebody C4 ($45,000 +/-) #1 condition RSA ($45,000 +/-) very condition / use sensitive American Cab ($35,000 +) #1 condition C2 Manual ($18,000 to $25,000) Driver Condition C4 Manual ($18,000 to $25,000) Driver Condition Tips / Cabs ($15,000 to $20,000) Driver Condition Quite a few of my friends have recently purchased driver condition 964s they are a nice value.....

I may have missed the boat on 964s, it seems that prices are slowly starting to ratchet up. I'm not looking for anything specific other than it being cheap and an interesting color. I'm tired of white, silver, red, and black. 5 speed is a must and I'm not interested in C4s as AWD isn't too useful in my area. There is a gorgeous Aubergine car on eBay now but I don't think I would pay the 25k they are asking unless the top end is recent. I'll keep looking. Thanks for the insight. |
