1974 R gruppe inspired value?
Are 74s better than 75 and 76? And are they potentially a good buy compared to scs?
Thanks, Mine |
Yes and no.
74 has better gearing and less emissions (thermal reactors) controls on the engine. However, they are quite prone to rust (must like early cars without galvanized chassis). Comparing the 74-76 to the 911SC - the SC has a bit more robust engine but are a little heavier. Flaired fenders in the rear have appeal to many. I think the 911SC is a good value and the 'mid year' cars (74-76) are good driver cars yet lack a little market appeal and thus are less costly to obtain. |
Unless they are 75-76 3.0 Carrera....or a 74 Euro.....I'll take one of them over any SC.

Another consideration in California is that the '74 models are smog-exempt while the '75-76 are not. This makes a big difference to someone who wants to modify the car in the R-Gruppe vein, by allowing engine swaps/modifications without conforming to emission requirements. In other states, it might not matter at all, depending on regulations.

is 1975 and older models. 1976 and above are required to pass emissions testing. Thx, TT |
