How do I value my 88 Carrera with 200K miles?
I'll have to sell my beloved 911 since my lady needs a TDi for the fuel efficiency (drives 20K+ miles a year), and we also need a larger vehicle for mountain stuff. Condo life downtown doesn't leave us any room for a 3 car stable, so it has to go :/
Problem is - I have no idea what it's worth. I'm the 3rd owner, 2nd owner had full records for the 20 years he owned it. Over 35K in total with the receipts, no accidents, original venetian blue paint, a few driving mods (boxster front brakes, Bilstein HD shocks, Sparco seats, Momo steering wheel, H-4 headlights, and a cat-bypass pipe, and Kepp Pressure plate with new Sachs disk). The top end was rebuilt at 150k miles (rings, wrist pins, valve guides, etc), the car has an upgraded AC system that works (barrier hoses, extra condenser in fender), and it's had a ton of work recently (full clutch job, oxygen sensor, CHT sensor, front wheel bearings, new tires, and bunch of other stuff). Everything works as it should (even the clock), burns about 1 qt every 2500 miles (BP oil), and the entire shifter assembly was rebuilt before I bought it so it's nice and tight. I have paper receipts and an excel spreadsheet of everything that's been put into the car since 50K miles. Wheels are Fuchs. I also have a list of every gallon of gas I've put into it. I'm kind of anal like that. Body is prob a 8.5 out of 10 with rock chips in the front. Interior is prob a 8.5 out of 10 as one seat does need recovering at the bolster (I have the matching fabric to do it) and there is one crack in the dash that hasn't gotten any bigger. And it is due for a valve job. Been registered in WA, TX, and here in CO - so no corrosion from salt. Would really appreciate some help in figuring out what to ask. ![]()

Cool pic. Loveland pass? 3.2 Carreras are on the move upwards all mileages and variations.
Condition and maintenance are paramount to value. Sound as though it was very well maintained. At that mileage it might need a top overhaul or more, but only if the leakdown numbers look bad. In my opinion all factors should be put into the price. Cosmetics, mechanical, mileage, color, options etc.. Hard to say, look at comps that are close and start a wee bit high so the buyers feel good about knocking the price down. I say start @ $18-20k based solely upon mileage and a quick glance. I am sure others will chime in. Good luck!!

![]() It did have a top end done at about 150K miles with about 6-7K spent on it, IIRC. At 160K miles, the leak down numbers were all 98-99%, but I haven't had a recent leak down or compression test. Here are the images that the seller sent me. Looks basically the same today sans that GPS unit thing. I'll get a complete photo set when I put up the for sale ad. But, just trying to get an idea of even where to start......

Looks like its in pretty solid shape. Mileage doesn't seem to have as much of a bearing as you'd think, provided you have the receipts to support the proper maintenance these cars require..
The up-to-date maintenance, rare color, and G50 transmission are all working in your favor. I'd say you'd be safe with an asking price in the mid 20s and see what happens. I'd be a little disappointed if you let it go for less than $20k. |

Yup - everything listed on my excel sheet comes with paper documentation - all the way back to 50K miles. All the service done while I've owned it has been done by Storz Garage here in Denver - probably one of the two best air-cooled shops here. When I do a simple summation of all the work - comes out to $35,405.27.

The highish miles might chase some segment of the target market, so that's going to drive the price down some. While the experienced market doesn't care, the broader market does. It'll cost probably $1-3k below a lower mileage car. Unless you can wait. ![]() |

I am re-adjusting my pricing opinion given the top job at 150k. Ask more. All the best with the sale.

You will get 25k.
For me with the info posted the only negatives are, steering wheel, radio and seats? Are the original books present? Is your wife wearing ski goggles in the first picture? it looks strange (no offence) Christian |

No - it's just her hair and her sunglasses.
It has a momo steering wheel, but I have the original, too, and it's in fantastic condition. Was going to wall mount it - still might. I do have a complete manual set, complete tool kit, pump, spare, and a the factory service manual set in PDF. I don't have factory seats, and I would think sourcing blue ones wouldn't be easy.

That's almost what I paid for my '89 with 69,000 miles. I think you're a bit optimistic, no offense to the original author. I sure hope he gets it.

Nice car, great color and year. I hate any mods no matter what even if it helps the car in performance or handling. To me mods are just a waste of dough, but enough, it hurts not being totally original, mileage is a negative because there are still G50 cars out there under 130k mileage for $25,000. But as most say start high at 25k, I think the biggest asset is a coupe in good color, but depends how good paint is, most likely will sell in low 20's.

Have to agree as I was looking for a basically stock car when I found it. I had plans on putting a cat back on to pass Denver emissions, but somehow, it passed without it. I was shopping for the original seats, but quickly realized how comfy the sportec seats were, and that they were kind of needed for how well this thing goes around corners. I drove it from TX to CO in single day and never felt any discomfort in the seats. Pretty sure they're more supportive and comfortable than my previous Audi's seats, which would have left me twitching and turning after a thousand miles. To this day, that drive was the single greatest driving day of my life.

Very nice car. Great photography! Are you shooting with some sort of "high key" program? Other than professional ads, I'm not sure that I have seen cars shine like that, definitely not my Venetian Blue. Hope you can find a good home for it.

I find that this shade of blue looks substantially different between shots. Lighting and white balance make a pretty big difference with blue colored cars - at least more so than some of the other standard colors. The first picture is adjusted, but doesn't look much different than the original - some simple tonal adjustments. The second picture is from instagram using my iPhone 5. So yeah - that's got all sorts of crazy adjustments tonal adjustments.
First one it shot with a Canon 5D and a 70-200 F4L IS.

This is the original image straight off the camera with zero post work. I shoot in RAW, so there isn't any JPEG conversion tweaks that most cameras will put in. Still looks great, especially given the flat light and that we had just finished 400 miles aimlessly driving around the Colorado high country.
I think Venetian blue and Baltic blue are the two best blues Porsche ever created. It looks painfully good in the sun. ![]() Another image straight off the camera with no tweaks. ![]() And similar composition with a B&W conversion and some other adjustments. It's really hard to take a bad picture of this car - the lines and shape are pure sex. ![]()
