Price Check: 1967 911s

Hello everyone,

As the title states I'm trying to get a price check on a 1967 911s that my friend is thinking about departing with.

Here are the facts that I have:
  • Still in the original family. (Bought back in 1967 at Porsche by his Uncle).
  • All original, no rust, no repaint, no dings, or scratches, everything works.
  • No rips and very minimal wear on interior.
  • Only missing the tool kit.
  • All receipts and window sticker.
  • 68k miles.
  • Red with Black interior.
  • Car looks and runs flawlessly. (Time capsule that sat in garage for the last 26 years) - Yes the car has been mechanically/physically refreshed from the long period of sitting.

Any information would be helpful,

Thank you,

Jason

About a grillion dollars.

Seriously, that is a car that is almost impossible to predict within $30k.

All original, low miles, original family, all records...etc.

You can't really fix a price on it, because there is no telling what someone would be willing to pay. This is a car that you prep and send to Barrett-Jackson.

Somewhere between $125k and $200k.

In this crazy speculative market it is really hard to know where to price it. Sure would enjoy seeing photos of it. Probably at least $250K which leaves me just shaking my head in disbelief.

Everyone, thank you for the advice and knowledge. He is currently putting the sale on a hold. Going to get it appraised and then he'll see what he wants to do.

And there goes any chance of a deal. Any seller who seeks an appraisal will ask top dollar plus ten percent. The 10% covers selling it through his new found broker friend.

I thought about buying it, but then I stepped back and considered what you could buy with this amount of money. I decide I would rather want a ford gt and 50k extra. To me, I don't agree with the prices these cars are going for. I started this thread trying to see the general public "worth price" of these cars. When I asked what he wanted he said 250k - 300k. (He got this price from a dealer in Malibu, CA.) I believe appraisal will probably be in this money range. So much for the typical Porsche hobbyist.

Couldn't agree more unfortunately. Even if these and higher price levels are not sustainable (I don't think they will be), the hobby will be changed for the foreseeable future IMHO.

A Ford GT would be a lot of fun for the $$$.

As described I would venture that its a mid $200k car all day long.

I have a 67s and track sales both private and public.

Many believe that a top level 67Ses will be valued the same as a similar conditioned 356 Speedsters...mid $300s within the next 12-18 months.

The price increase could happen much faster as it has with other similarly rare cars. Example being a Dino. 2 years ago one sold in the mid $300s. Many arm chair appraisers said that price was a flke never to be repeated. The next sale at auction for a similar car was in the same range...now, 2-ish years later a nice Dino is $450k-ish.

Cars to own now:
1) 89 and 94 Speedsters.
2) 997.2 GT3 RSes.
3) 67eses.
4) 560 SLs.
5) late 80s M3s
6) t25 VWs (Vanagons) Nuts, I know.
7) 89 930 Turbos. 89 has the 5 speed and is the best of breed.

and I personally think Alfas are going to make a come back in the US...but, I may be wrong with that call.

Alfa's have already come on strong. Good luck finding a 70 to 74 GTV 2000 for a reasonable price.

Does not matter what you think. Try to find a SWB 911S?

Price is based on demand and this car is very rare and highly sought after.

Its an open forum... correct me if I am wrong but when someone makes a comment or asks a question we're supposed to post what our opinion is or what we think?

I'm with turbolook, these prices are driven purely by speculation in a very thin market - if one 67S goes for 200K at Barrett Jackson, then all 67Ses must be worth that. And of course the story sounds like a fairy tale, one owner, long storage, no rust blah blah blah.

At that price you would never be able to relax and drive it so you could enjoy it ! Eventually this bubble will pop just like all the others, after putting lots of commission dollars into the pockets of dealers, appraisers and auction houses.

Hmmm.

I've thought as much myself, but some opinions are less popular than others.

I'm with you. In the early 90s, I was driving an Alfa GTV6. At the time, they were somewhat unloved, so I got it pretty cheap. Well, for a VERY short time, the car got a lot of interest, and the prices shot up. I wish I had sold right at that time. Why? Well, a very nice '72 GTV was for sale in just about perfect condition. Good color combo, bone stock, one-owner - a dream of a car. But stupid me, I had the same idea in my mind as you - such a nice car, I'd never want to drive it, or be nervous doing so. If I had bought that car, and just driven it, I'd be able to sell right now at about 1000% profit. I probably wouldn't, because I like those cars and the way they drive, but still. Some cars have a big bubble that lasts a long time. Some cars have a small bubble that lasts a very short time. I think the longhoods have staying power, because they get to be fewer and fewer as the years go by, and not just due to crashes. At some point, folks won't take them out on the roads except for parades and car shows.

Absolutely not. Who wants to buy a long hood?? old guys, recently retired who are going to buy a 996 once they smell the roses. Don't believe me? see what your local pca brings to events.. the near future belongs to the 964!

Well said.

I am also a big fan of the GTV 2000 and What used to be a 10k to 12k car just a handful of years ago is now a $30k car. I can only imagine what you could have paid for one even before a handfulof years ago?6 grand?
