Carrera 3.0s in America - Values and Discussion

Like many of us, I have a special, deep-seeded desire to own a Carrera 3.0. I'm sure it's largely driven by the Scarcity Principle more than any rational need to spend substantially more than an SC or 3.2 for a largely similar car.

However, is there any real guideline to pricing them in the US market?

I noticed the Targa for sale on Pelican/eBay and was just curious.

Also, is there anything special that would need to be done to get a car such as that registered at the DMV?

The Carrera 3.0 is a different car than the SC or 3.2. It had a 930/02 case and the crank from the 2.7L.
My first 911 was a C3 and I regret selling it very much. I've owned other 2.7, 3.0, and 3.2L cars and none of them compare.
My car was all white with white leather interior. The engine had been rebuilt with 964 cams and basic updates. It weighed 2480 wet without me in it. I'm still not sure why it was so light. It was weak below 3800 RPM but from there up to 6500 or so it pulled like a champ. It rev'd quick and was a blast to drive. It was geared tall and was a great highway car.
It had some previous collision and body work in the past and I sold it for $19k about 4.5 years ago.

They are rare, and I expect them to be on the climb. Prices I've seen over the past few years have been from $9k all the way to above $40k. I'll try to dig up some pictures.

I had a 3.0 Carrera engine in my 70' RS clone. What a blast they are!!! I missed it too but sold it to buy an all original 73' T.

Wow, very neat car awdbandito. Why did you sell?

I was driving it a lot and I felt bad putting the miles on it and I wanted AC. So I thought I would get rid of it and buy something more modern. Modern ended up being an '85 Carrera. Bad Decision. I now just drive them and don't care about the odometer. I am still in touch with the new owner and he did a bare metal respray. Once it was brought down to metal the previous accident damage was very significant. Repaired well, but every corner had been banged up, rear fenders replaced, etc.

I too have a '76 carrera 3.0
They are great cars though I must say I can jot compare it to any other model as it is the only porsche I have ever driven. They are great highway cars and really push you back in your seat over 4,000 rpm. My father paid around $30,000 for it in 1994. That is in Australia so prices are about double what they are in the US. Just saw that targa on eBay sell for 31k US. There is a very nice looking convertable for sale in Australia for 30k US at the moment. There is also one on eBay.co.uk formerly owned by Elton John! Ours has been in the family for nearly 20 years and I have no intention of letting it leave the family. I think that pushes up the price if them. Their is probably only 500 or so left in good original condition around the world and the owners are very reluctant to sell them.
