1975 911s

Hello, Im on a search for my first Porsche, My only knowledge is for the last 2 months online searching , reading forums etc. I've looked at a very nice 1985 Targa 3 owner with 84K miles. Only issue is a minor rear fender bender or so Im told. Im also looking at a 1975 911S with extensive restoration. I have receipts totaling $18,000 plus the repaint which was striped to bare metal primed and repainted another $7k. Any insights on the 75 I read the 2.7 ltr engines weren't so good, and owner wants $24,000 ,,seems high for an older 911..any input will be helpful..Thanks

The 84 sounds a little suspect at that price without more detail. 1975 sounds very interesting to me if the work done is quality and can be easily be worth 24k f its done right. By now all the engine problems with 2.7's should have been addressed. Need more detail.

Hey MPI,
I purchased my first 911 about three years ago. I ended up with a 1977 coupe.
100k on the clock that needed engine work.
Because it was numbers matching I rebuilt the 2.7, addressing all the problems with the mag case with the help of Ollies Machine shop, heads rebuilt etc etc.. They aren't cheap and I spent probably 6K and did the disassembly and reassembly myself. (licensed aircraft technician)
The mid years are great starting points. Try to find one that was dipped at the factory, mine has absolutely no rust.
As was mentioned all the engine issues should be sorted by now, if they haven't, build that into the price.
Be warned! You will get Porsche fever and I have found no cure yet, I think a 993 in the spring will cure me for a while.
Good luck, most of the fun is in the hunt!

Great looking S - you should be able to swap that to a 993 for very little extra money. But I would think it through - it looks perfect!

I do not disbelieve in anything. I start from the premise that everything is true until proved false. Everything is possible.
