955 (Cayenne) vs 911

06 955 turbo s = 25 k $
06 911 turbo s = 50k $ ish

That's a funny market because the Cayenne has more power, more options, air suspension, AWD, 4x4, pano roof and more.

As a proud Canadian , the Cayenne also eats snow for breakfast. It's a great daily driver.

Don't get mad , I have several 911s and love them all.

christiandk 01-28-2015 10:29 PM

The Cayenne is tacky, imo. Tacky is always -50%!

Ronnie's.930 01-28-2015 10:45 PM

^^^ And the fact that they appeal to elitist soccer moms in the Dallas area is also a -50% right thar!!!

billh1963 01-29-2015 02:51 AM

You are comparing a sports car to an ugly SUV. Apples to Oranges comparison.....

Cobalt 01-29-2015 04:30 AM

But in 06 the 996TT was considerably more new. My 04 CTT in perfect condition is only worth $15k tops it is a lot of car for the money and it is not tacky. Just picked up a 14 Cayenne GTS great car drives like a large 911.

It can never be mistaken for a sports car and far from an air cooled 911 but for a DD they make great rides.

ficke 01-29-2015 05:44 AM

Nothing to be mad about, except you're making an absurd comparison, "truck to sports car" are different buyers with totally different needs and uses. Like Bill stated "Apples to Oranges"

Not mad just saying there was a huge difference in MSRP.

But for simple comparisons there were more cayenne's sold in 2006 than all other Porsche models combined therefore a glut in the market of used product as well.

I fall into the category of being a buyer for both. Both have plummeted in value the 996TT is finally starting to see an increase I don't expect the CTT to ever see that.

NYNick 01-29-2015 06:28 AM

I don't ever see being in the market for a used SUV of any kind.

techweenie 01-29-2015 07:31 AM

Not defending this bloated SUV by any means, but have you seen the track times these things are capable of?

Porsche: Cayenne kicks German butt

Can't drive a Cayenne Turbo ion the street fast enough to need the power. Buy a used Toureg instead. 85% of the performance, way less cost.

ficke 01-29-2015 09:56 AM

People I know who brought a Cayenne looked at other SUV's BMW X3 4's, Mercedes GLK GL whatever's or maybe a Landrover SUV as an option to the Cayenne, They were in the market for a SUV not a 2+2 at best sports car. Likewise most 911 buyers looked at other sports cars and not SUV's as an option to a 911.
If you are willing to make the compromise/comparison a 911 can work as a SUV and a Cayenne can work as a sports car. But they are a compromise of each other and really hard to compare.

brianvb 01-29-2015 10:09 AM

I'd love to drive my 911s in the winter but they don't do so well in 8" of snow. The Cayenne is a BEAST in the winter. It also has very good manners at 120+ mph and it gets there quick . It was 180k$ cdn new , very close to that of a turbo 911. Buuut ...., they depreciate down to nothing. I bought mine used. And I plan to use it up.

So what are you going to do with the 04 CTT?? Does it have a tow package??

RD911T 01-29-2015 01:35 PM

I'd like to have a Cayenne. I want something bigger and have my 71 for small & fun. I need the size, but I like sporty. I live in a smaller town that's 110 miles from the nearest dealer or Porsche Tech. That scares me a little. A really nice CTT just sold over on the for sale forum. It was owned by Loren Beggs, who has a Porsche Shop in CA. If I was ready to pull the trigger, that sounded like a great vehicle.

Yes it does and is in very nice condition but I might as well keep it for the money. Right now my wife is using it. It is amazing how different the newer cayenne's are. In some ways I like the gen I better but the GTS is a bad ass ride. Not as fast but handles far better and has all the modern bells and whistles. No need for the turbos speed in an SUV but hard to say no to. I don't think the GTS is much slower but is lacking in the torque area of the turbo

Interestingly we just test drove everything and no matter what we drove we kept coming back to the Cayenne. We tried the Macan and wanted to like it but it is no cayenne. Once you drive one of these it is hard to drive the others. Although my favorite is the raptor. Simple and just large enough. I have owned many trucks but nobody moves out of the way as they do when you drive one of these. It also has a following like the old 911 crowds of the 70's through 90's. You see another raptor and they always wave or flash their lights. Something lost by the Porsche crowd.

If you want the first gen Cayenne then stick to the 2009 and 2010's. The DFI motors are a lot better, I find the styling a lot better, and the electronics are light-years better. I am not so keen on the air suspensions. Typically its a matter of "when" not "if" the airbags fail and often cause the air pump to fail.

I agree the air suspension is expensive to fix I had an air-shock rupture the aluminum casing wasn't cheap but these cars are superior ride and handle better with the air suspension. The air ride is a must if you tow. Both mine have it and I wouldn't buy one without it. I also like the convenience of having the air pump accessible to inflate tires and such.

If decide you want an air cooled 911SC track project, LMK, :D Wanting one for when I'm dragging my open Featherlite to the Track.

Recently sold my Cayenne GTS.
6 speed manual.
Great truck, seats suck.
Too hard.
Any trip over 3 hours, ass numbing.
Would still have it if the seats were not so Mercedes like.
