				1993 RSR for sale...

I'm not normally one to post things like this, but it's an interesting car so you all should check it out 1993 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.8 | Villa Erba 2017 | RM Sotheby's 10 kilometer factory RSR with several comfort "upgrades". And, surprisingly dirty for being brand new...

The red interior makes my eyes water. On the other hand my '77 wide body 911 is almost that dirty right now.

per the descriptions, it's not dirty -- instead, that's the cosmoline sprayed on at the factory to protect paint during shipping -- such a difficult car to enjoy!

Cosmoline? I never heard of that on a car before. Back during the days of crated, surplus Jeeps maybe..

The car is clearly dirty. That's the thing with barn finds these days, they don't remove the dust from sitting prior to the auction.

Yep, seen it on Chasing Classics where they find a car and leave it as is in order to "prove legitimacy" that is authentic which get the buyers hyped. Specially the big money collectors...

I worked at a dealer in the 80s, I don't recall Cosmoline being sprayed on the exterior of the cars. It was sprayed on the underside.

I love it, no matter what color(s) it's painted. One of my favorite eras of 911.

I don't think there is any on the paint, just dust. The ad is poorly written.

Aside from the 25 year rule, would that car be street legal in the US? Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk

I worked a short time at a Porsche/Audi dealer in the early '80s and the cars came off the truck covered with cosmoline. It was an effort to remove when they were dirty like that. The dirt was virtually imbedded in the stuff. Easy to scratch without large amounts of solvent. Should the new owner decide to remove the cosmoline great care will be needed!!

I picked up many, many special order Porsches and Ferraris that were brought into this country from the mid 1980s and the early 1990s (including 959s), and I can tell you that putting Cosmoline on anything near as special as this is total baloney. These were and are special cars, and they wouldn't have traveled in the 'steerage' with all the Hyundais and VWs coming off Maersk at the Jersey Port. This car might have even been air cargo. Even cheaper cars like Hondas and others are well protected (ie. they are not shipped in open air on the top deck as some hilariously believe). That Cosmoline is a bunch of nonsense. Never, ever have I seen it. The factory would not have put it on, unless the car was hosed down with it by some clown. I suspect the owner or the Sultan of Brunei or whomever had it stashed under a dirty air duct or sprayed WD40 on it. Cosmoline, yeah, that's very special...I guess it adds to the mystery of the auction, but it's a lie... | ||
