That was a color that some Porsche paint guy thought of when he looked at his old, crusty, not often washed with bleach, tighty whiteys and thought "that'll work".

"Citrus" colors.
Signal Yellow
Viper Green
Tangerine

But also the super-rare oddball colors

Gray Beige
Aubergine

And the one that I couldn't keep (kills me to have let it go)

Turquoise.

Photos of turquoise do not do it justice. In person, it's like being in the ice bucket challenge -- just smacks you in the face... Unfortunately, it lives in the UK now.

When I tried to buy it when it was for sale probably 10 or more years ago the PTS quoted was "periwinkle". A great vintage look to a first gen. I liked it at the time and still do. Would have fit right in now.

I have to say, that turquoise is super-unique. I wonder why no one selects it, when doing a color change.

Original paint Apple Green

I bought the car sight unseen 3400 miles away because of the color. Back then I had the owner take some pictures with a disposable camera & mail them too me! I did pay top dollar but the originality (color, numbers matching drivetrain & interior) was the driving factor.

I like the apple green. Looks like it needs the front valance painted, as well as a set of fuchs, but it's a good looking color.

74s are great cars.... bright work, just a bit heavier than a long hood w/o the pollution control issues of the 75.

Sure, but even California doesn't require smogging a '75 car, so by now, I'm sure most cars had the smog equipment removed long ago.

My '75 has had a 3.2 with headers for a while now.

  • Aubergine
  • Lichtgrun

Probably also worth mentioning; color detractors:
  • Guards Red
  • Black
  • Silver (the absurd anniversary editions killed this color for me)

That periwinkle and turquoise are awesome! Never heard of or seen those colors on a Porsche before
