How do you spend $370K on a 914-6 restoration?

Make that "well in excess of" $370K. Was going to post this in Prices that make me Laugh thread, but maybe I'm missing something. And it's not a legit GT - "inspired" ???

1970 Porsche 914-6 GT

Note: If your shop has more than 600 man hours in a set of bumpers, something is wrong - I think.

Finally, someone said something. I was wondering when the elephant in the Pelican showroom would be addressed. Well see how much it sells for if it ever does.

No one has commented on the 74 914 that sold for 93K at Amelia last weekend either.

The bug eye driving lights are the only mistake on that car.
If I had that much money to piss away, Why not?. The seller just needs to realize he's not getting half of the money spent back. He'll be lucky to get $100k for it.

"...was built with no time or expense spared..."

May I suggest that they should spare the time and expense in future endeavors??

When I saw the 600 hours on the bumpers, I thought it must have been a typo.

I know most body guys prep an entire car for paint down to bare metal in 200 or less.

Really what is this worth?? $370K - $300K = $70K? Was the $300K buffer put there to appease the wife?

Frankly the more hilarious part is that it took this much time for us to comment on it.

Seems that we take it for granted that the market is so out of whack.

My buddy the P Tech sold his GT replica for $60K. I thought that was all the money and I'd take that one over this one all day long.

600 hours into the bumpers at body shop rate of 50$/H = 30 000$ for bumper work

i've been watching that ad and this thread with real curiosity. aside from the fact that those driving lights are way too big, that's crazy money no matter how you slice it.

i do wonder what the market is for these cars right now. i picked this one up a year an a half ago for less than a 10th of what the guy has in that car. and mine has a 3.6!

that ad is absurd on so many levels...

We talked about it last week in another thread along with the KM 964 sema car the same auction house is selling.

That's one sweet car. Best color for a 914 IMHO. My roomates 914 in college was this color.

This same bunch in Wisconsin had a 72 E for sale a while back. It needed paint. I asked them what a new Signal Yellow paint job would cost ... shop manager says $80,000 ... for a paint job and a small bit of rust repair (gulp). Guess that would be the first step towards a $370,000 restoration!
