Both Gooding and RM Sotheby's wanted the car and both advised me their sale estimate was $180k. Looking at recent sales, including a similar car in AZ last January, I concur.

$180k would have netted me $162k after commissions. Less transport fees, catalog fees, detail fees, and travel/hotel costs as they insist you or a representative are on site, I figure I would have cleared $150k or so. And that's not including my time at $1,000 per hour.

I did well at $165k and the car found a great new home.

I'll never understand people who make a couple million dollars a year announcing it to the internet. That's not even a humble brag. That's a douchebag brag.

If you really make $1000/hr you pay someone $100/hr to do it for you or you do it because you want to do it. You don't do it in lieu of working and making money.

Congrats JP. Good auction for seller & buyer. If you ever miss the boost and need a quick fix, you can take my 76 930 for a spin. I keep it just up the road from you at PetrolLounge. J

Consider the source of said brag.

Give me a break. When someone is criticizing the financial decision of selling the car on BaT, and I'm defending my choice, the value of my time is certainly a factor. And $1k an hour is hardly bragging. You can barely throw a rock these days and not hit someone making that number, be it lawyers, doctors, bankers, c-level executives, and on and on. It's not exactly the rarified air it was 10 years ago.

Besides, if I really wanted to brag I'd include stock options and dividends.

Very kind of you, sir. Consider the offer reciprocal.

Fewer than 250k Americans earn more than $1 million a year. I'm just saying.

I hear you. But even the average 911 buyer has a household income more than 6X the median. Trust me, lots and lots of 7-figure people in that group. I go to a lot of high-end car events. I'm usually one of the poor people in the room.

Collector car auctions are a 1%er game, that goes without saying.

Was just wondering since 1000/hr doesn't seem like doctor/lawyer hours so CEO makes sense.

Let me know if you're hiring

Full time engineer currently but maybe a sign-on-911 would get me thinking of a new position

You'd be surprised the number of doctors and lawyers clearing that number. Just try and find a top IP or corporate trial lawyer, or a good fertility doctor or cosmetic surgeon.

I'm not obtuse, I know it's a crazy amount of money, but it's the world we live in today.

And I'm ALWAYS hiring.

Hmm interesting. Never really thought of or had much knowledge on them.

I'll send you a PM. Maybe something down the line if I decide to leave Cleveland
