For Sale No Reserve, but starting price $xx,xxx

Just saw another ad this morning about a car selling with no reserve BUT with starting price in the low 5 digits but open to offers a little bit higher. Do people not understand what NO RESERVE means? I would love to bring my cars to a big auction house ie RM, Gooding etc. and say I will offer the car at no reserve, but my starting price is $250K. I do not think they would even laugh at me, they would probably just look at me and wonder if I escaped from the looney bin and dismiss me.

Just my 2 cents

I’ve seen equally ridiculous listings where they say “accepting offers above xxx”. That’s almost just as bad imo. Who the hell is going to bid against themselves when you’ve already stated that you’d take xxx?!? Lol

If you are talking about eBay auctions, could be the seller is trying to save a few bucks in listing fees. Last car I listed, I think it was about $60 for reserve, regardless if the car sold. With the high opening bid and no reserve, at least you know what the guy wants for the car. More annoying to me are noreserve auctions that mysteriously end early... Hey, I was winning!
