I think it is dissonance which makes us convince ourselves that some idiosyncrasies with our cars are normal and even loveable.
A dealer I didn't buy a porsche from told me that porsches didn't leak oil they seep, they all seep and seepage was part of porsche ownership. I think I'll tell my wife that the array of oilspots on our garage floor is actually beautiful artwork and we should invite friends over to drink wine while admiring and interpreting our garage floor artwork masterpiece created by a the troubled german artist

interesting point! it's not an oil slick.. it's a work of art.

i think also the problem may boil down to:

some people refuse to believe that what they have is imperfect. the imperfections that do exist are either not acknowkedged, or they are attributed to imperfections in other people.

i created a beast out of my 924. the car is uncomfortable to drive on anything but a silky smooth road because it is set STIFF. the interior is hot, and the car leaks a little bit of water. i realized these and i said "oh well."

so one part of overcoming snobbery may be realizing what you have is not the best... or the shortcomings in your possessions are not refective of shortcomings in your character? on the opposite side, the strong points of your possessions are not refective of strong points of your character either... just strong points of the possessions.

what do you think?

Do the people who are snobbish become that way after they acquire some of the finer things in life, or are they predisposed to be snobbish and thats why they acquire these things?

I don't know, but another dynamic is that some are wrongly accused of being snobbish because of their possessions.

That is why democrats do not like republicans.

Where I live, the Democrats tend to be much richer than the Republicans. It makes for very strange versions of each.
