R1100S Prices on Rebound?

Is this how the price uptick or price bubble begins to form?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/273373160640?ul_noapp=true

Recently I've been noticing r11s ads appearing with over-the-top asking prices Guess I'll just sit back and watch

I think it's more of case of " No honey; I REALLY did try to sell it"

I am always amazed when I meet people that are delusional in what their stuff is worth. I have a neighbor, despite all the evidence in the world at the end of his finger tips, he still prices a piece of land 3x from what the market will bear. He explains his logic to me and I just nod my head knowing there is no point in having a conversation about the real world.

So, is anyone going to ask the lister why he thinks its worth that price? I will if no one will volunteer. I'll be nice about it. I'm genuinely curious. I agree, I bet it's the wife telling him to sell it and it's listed to appease her. If not, delusional people are fun.....for a brief period.

Go for it! Ask him if he'll throw in that fine vintage Persian rug into the deal at no extra charge

Regardless of what the buyer is asking here I'd say the market is somewhat north of this price. Generally in the mid three thousand dollar to mid four thousand dollar range. High twos only will more than likely buy you a tatty ride. This bike is cobbled together out of two machines.

Agreed. Had the bike in the ad not been "built out of two crashed bikes", given the mileage and the farkles, I'd say this would be at $4500 asking. The R11S prices have been soft for a while now. There are a lot of "mickey mouse" bikes up for sale, but the really clean, low mile well cared for bikes with service history still pull north of $4k.

Just messaged him through eBay and he responded..."Because that's what it's worth to me. It's like new.Better than New!"

So I think he wants to keep it. I bought mine with 12k miles for $3,860 and it just needed new tires and a battery. My HP2 I picked up for under $14k with 12k miles and also in mint condition (thank you Scott) with all of the appropriate modifications (RT a-arm, GD headers, PCV etc etc). Again..only needed tires and a battery.

I agree this one could be cobbly. I've just had a good experience with my own cobbled-together 11S and depending on whether this guy knows what he's doing mechanically it could be a good deal for a clean-looking Prep.

Now let's talk about all the R1200S's sitting unsold with $8k asking prices!

My original owner, 11.5K miles, near mint condition '02 Prep was listed in 2014 at $6.5K...and bought for $4K. Of course, that is just a single sale in midwest US....YMMV

I don't know about that. In general, the bike market is pretty flat.
I've seen the lowest prices ever recently for R1100S's.

Cheap: https://santabarbara.craigslist.org/mcy/d/bmw-r1100s/6622404407.html

Cheaper: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/mcy/d/fs-2001-bmw-r1100s-frost-blue/6658819723.html

...and saw one recently for $2400...

Mine has 36,000 miles, is very, very clean and has some very useful mods. Moreover, the old gal is well maintained. I put it up for sale once for $3,900.00 as I recall then thought what can I buy for that much money? Nothing as nice or well equipped so I pulled the ad. Here she is.

"then thought what can I buy for that much money?" Exactly; good call to keep her.

The bike in SB has 122k miles, so the price is actually on the very high side even if does have Ohlins and other new stuff. I'd say that's a $2k bike, maybe $2500 if you really want one in a rare color.

Silver one is priced right.

However, these are examples of bikes that have been ridden, a lot and maybe even hard. The bikes usually offered on this forum are in a much nicer shape (I did say USUALLY). It probably safe to say that the R1100S market has bottomed out. If you want to sell, know the perils. However, if there is no need to cut 'em loose just ride and enjoy 'em. Eventually, one day in the not so near future the R11S will become darling of the retro market in similar way that the airheads have.

I should heed my own advice, as i am still teetering on cutting loose the 2004 Boxer Cup with less than 4k miles on the clock. I hate to run up the mileage but at the same time, I ride everything I have and sell anything thats not ridden much...
