Yes spring tension is there. But is the inch long detent going to drop into the differential housing area? Or is it going to drop down and then stop so that it is visible at the hole?

Split the nut. The last time I looked, the oil line was ... cheap. However, the reproduction line had a habit of being too long making it kink when installed. Make sure you buy a good one.

Take your battery to a parts store and have them load test it. 90% it is going to be bad. Replace it.
