Changed the oil today to a GL5 mineral oil and did a test drive. First impressions are that nothing has changed regarding selecting first from neutral, but will see how it is over the coming week....

Yes, but constant mesh gearboxes without synchro on first do not experience the problem of selecting first from neutral - well, unless you are raming in into gear. I have a lot of experience of these...

My '76 (build date 1st Feb 1976, 930/50 engine)...

My '76 (build date 1st Feb 1976, 930/50 engine) has the unmachined casting for the solenoid on the FD...not the best photos but easy enough to see on towards the top of each photo...

Yes, that was my initial thought, they were standard fitment in the tach in '77 alright, but not in '76, and there is no sign in the dash where there might have been one fitted by a previous owner...
