no power to the red wire with the key on indicates a disconnection of some sort upstream from the CD unit. what year is the car?

with the tensioner in a vise, push the plunger...

with the tensioner in a vise, push the plunger down and use a smallish screwdriver to set one side of the snap-ring into the groove, on an angle of course. do not look directly down on the plunger....

pop out the gas gauge, reach in and pull it out. should be easy to locate, with all the noise it makes. if the gas gauge hole is too small for your hand, the next hole over will work too.
