The fuel pump is suposed to run in the cranking position, not before. You might remove the fuel pump fuse and jump from battery to the bottom terminal of removed fuse to run the pump.

I have seen, because of the wall on 3.2 gasket being thin, the gasket side pull into the intake and cause a vacuum leak.
I do replace the insulators when building with new and don't use sealants....
