10 qts with a filter usually gets the level 1/2 way between the marks on the stick. Don't see how you could be low after adding 12 qts unless the engine was new, oil lines empty and not run yet.

Once you get the concave part outward and slightly proud of flat, just squeeze them round with channel-locks. Too much heat and they pop, so go slow.

I just use air in my motive. Drilled a hole through the bottle and installed a metal tire valve. You can put 40# in it. Just keep the reservoir full as you go. Lots better than leaking fluid on...
