The OEM housings is cast alloy, probably a zinc aluminum mixture. They are quite heavy. There are aftermarket plastic ones, but the quality is noth good.

Wow those brushes are gone. How did the skip rings look? In my 1986 the brushes were fine, but deep grooves in the copper slip rings.

I assumed the bypass valve housing was cast aluminum, and welding a piece of 6061 to this would be simple. The housing is magnesium, and you can weld aluminum to it........
