Is there an easy way to open the thermostat up. It looks like some kind of special wide bladed screwdriver. I've tried the channel lock route with no success.

I'd always used Castrol. After a recent rebuild since there were no leaks I went to Mobil 1 5-50. The car runs 20-30F cooler than ever before. This is on a relatively modded 76 turbo.
