Yes it does! Low pressure in the system will effect it, there is a low pressure switch controlling it to engage and also there is a high pressure switch to cut it off. Small diameter pipe is high...

Also check the front off the balance shaft sprocket, it might be leaking from the centere off the shaft.
Not happenning you think ! I think the same when my 83 944 was leaking on the upper balance...
