I have had luck removing , cleaning and lubricating the blower assembly . It however takes quite a bit of time and effort and if I had it to do over would try and source or have the motor rebuilt ....

Rit dye works excellent . I have used it several times with great results . Last time I used a cheap pump up sprayer . Just heat the water pour the dye in the sprayer and soak it . Good Luck

I would hate to be in your shoes . I have dropped a washer in the case during reassembly and it was a pain to get it out . I cant emagine it coming out by draining the oil . However it is worth a try...
