I'm thinking that if the original grease is gone, it's because the rear seal has allowed oil through. Any new grease would be washed away too.

I prefer the no fog-light look but the weight savings are probably not noticable unless you trim weight all over the car. Do you use the fog lights?

I believe the connectors along the pipework should be of the non-returnable variety (one-way valve) therefore allowing no fluid back to the tank.
