It's highly unlikely both sensors went bad at the same time. It sounds like your mechanic may be "shotgunning" in the hopes of solving the problem. i seriously doubt your hall sensor is defective...

No worries. If you have room to apply power directly to the motors great, otherwise you can use the leads at the switch. Good luck.

It could be, but before checking grounds you might want to ensure your battery and alternator are in top condition. A weak battery or alternator can cause the symptoms you've listed.

Yes, remove the side panel where the switch is located and put power to the leads for the electric motor you wish to articulate.
