Ummm how about rubberized spray undercoating? Always worked for me. One coat is 2mm thick and does the trick and is very light.

You did remove the stiletto (bump rubber)...

You did remove the stiletto (bump rubber) correct? You have to remove these before you can fully compress the dampers and engage the adjuster. The one that adjusts might have no stiletto in it.
