Can someone walk me through filling the carburetor bowls?
Have a ‘68 912 that has been sitting for 6 months. I split time in another state and the car has been in climate-controlled storage.
It turns over, but won’t start. I’ve tried a number of things — holding the pedal to the floor, pumping it, doing nothing but cranking it…no luck. I tried a bit of starter fluid in the filters to check for spark and it speeds up. Definitely wants to start. I know the conventional method of taking care of this problem these days is to install a bulb primer on the line to fill the carb bowls, which in turn should let the engine start and pull fuel from the tank with the mechanical pump without having to crank the starter endlessly. At the moment, I don’t really want to have to put one of those on the fuel line. For the moment, it simply like to be able to pipet or syringe some fuel into the bowls to get it going. Truth be told though, I don’t know what to do. Do I pull the air filter off and it’ll be obvious where to put the fuel? I have fairly little experience with carbs |

Start with removing the air filters. Spray but not a liberal amount into each carb then attempt to start. When using starter fluid I always keep a fire extinguisher near. Prior to it sitting for 6 months did you drain the fuel from the carbs?
