High beam and Fog light help?

Hi Gang

My 2003 986 S has a high beam and foglight on the driver's side (left) that won't work. I've swapped with known bulbs and no good bulb works. Normal headlamp works fine

Any thoughts on an easy fix?

Thank you
Shaun

Headlight wiring has likely deteriorated. The wiring inside the headlight.

Is that a replace sealed beam unit or is there plug and play wiring for the inside

I half want to replace them since PO burned the lenses but they a little $$$ for the OEM I want

I'm not sure that you can purchase just the wiring for inside the headlight. Check with SunCoast Porsche as they seem to have the best prices. If you can't you can try to find a used headlight with good wiring. Be sure to ask about the wiring before buying one. Or the least favorite option but least expensive option would be to repair the wiring yourself. They make this product called liquid wiring, that may help some. I got some at Walmart. Otherwise you can rewire, repair or replace the wiring inside yourself. Just take you time and take pictures before tearing it apart.

I'd start with removing the headlight and then pulling off the back cover and look inside with a flashlight to see the condition of the wiring. If it's crumbling then you likely have your answer. Any bare wires? Again, you have your answer. If not then it would either be the wiring leading to the headlight or the headlight switch. Try wiggling the switch with the lights on to see if you get an reactions from the lights.

Thanks for this - yeah the wiring is mint Has essentially been a garage queen with no visible wires corrosion whatsoever

But will
Try the switch wiggle shortly

Have you checked the fuses?

Next steps would be to pull the headlight housing and check for power at the body connector, followed by jumpering some 12V to the headlight housing connector.

Do the turn signals work properly? Parking lights?
