Hope someone knows the answer to this question!

Im currently stuck with me DME out putting in FR WILKS chip. Didnt come with any instructions so i dont know how to hook up the switch to run the 2 different programs in the chip. Anyone know how to do this? Also When im putting the new chip in, which side does the little "notch" on the chip go? When you open up the dme and the 2 boards are flat next to each other, say your looking from the closest to the end on the board where the chip goes. Is the chips notch suppose to be to the left, or you could say to the left which is "away" from the board? Hope you guys can understand what im saying, i have no vehicle till i put it back together, if i have to i will just install the chip and do the switch later, just want to put the chip in the right way. Thanks

John

OK, relized that i made no sense, so i took a picture, looking at the chip, the notch is on the left, is it installed right? I believe the stock chips notch was on the left too(shouldve looked before taking it out!). Thanks

I'd do what todwic advises. You can toast the chip if you install it backwards.

You've go a 50-50 chance. Do you feel lucky today?

We would like to know if you notice anything different after installing the chip. I'm getting one as soon as my paycheck arrives (a couple of days).

Did you install the bypass terminator plug? Without that in place you would have just the stock configuration.

Yah, is that where you unhook the altitude sensor and plug in that little connector into where the altitude sensor use to be? I did that, and it changed the whole sound of the engine when it revved but didnt seem any faster.

Did you concern yourself with ESD (Electro Static Discharge) procedures? If not, you may have damaged the chip when handling it. The reason I ask is that like with my '86 na, you should have immediately noticed a significant difference...

I'd like to get one, but I'm not putting it in, I'll pay someone to do it, I'm not the most delicate guy on this Planet

Not satisfied so he gets his money back? No questions asked?
I like that kind of service. It also shows what kind of faith FR has in his products.
FR, I just placed an order!

I'll report back with my expierience.

Trust me, I was sweatin' it when I realized that the plastic clips holding both boards in place, had hardened over time. I used gradual pressure with both hads until the top board slipped off the plastic pin. I used a toothpick and put a dap on moly-lube on each one to ease putting the "sandwich" boards back together.

Aside from that, I used an ESD strap and placed an ESD mat on the workbench outside. Last thing you want to do is take the DME, Chip inside your home where its nice and "comfy". The reason for this is you will most likely walk accross some plush carpet and pick up a static charge then handle your equipment.

Years ago, IBM spend millions of dollars on research and procedures of ESD and its impact on electronic equipment...

Q. Why did IBM spend so much on ESD?
A. In order to save billions of dollars on out of box equipment failure.

Having said that, I still have a few "disposable" ESD straps laying around. Frank, if you are in need of one, let me know.
No cost to you, just my way of saying thanks to the 944/951 community.

I put it in just fine, no problems, did everything, no improvements, about the same, more or less. If it was ****ed up it would have ran bad, it ran just fine, but not what i expected!!!!!! I bet the chip is perfectly fine when you get it back! Nothing happened here, i installed it, didnt see a $205 improvement, so im sending it back, sorry for the inconvenience but stuff like this happens when your dealing with a buisness or a product you sell. Not everyone is satisfied with the products, i get this all the time with my goped buisness.

No, I don't think so. He sounds desperate to get his chip back. My opinion only. His customer support was extensive for me. Worked with me for weeks. It ended up that I had a vacuum leak that the Ox sensor was hiding. He had a procedure. I was sucking in air at the head/intake gaskets. Richard 84 w/power prom
