I need some feedback from you guys

One of our fanatic customers that was doing a full restoration begged us to make these. After working so hard on the finish of his car he just couldn't bring himself to reuse the 40 year old ratty looking piece. We made several extras and I'm wondering if there is a demand. Should I wrestle Wayne into carrying it?

I've been told that many Porsche restorers have searched long and hard for this little cardboard glue in cover. We are not even sure what to call it. Its located under the front hood in the "smuggler box" area and used on early 911/912 cars.

These are precision die cut from water resistant black cardboard then formed with steam, moisture and pressure and looks exactly like the factory one that originally came with your car.

I have a '73 and don't recall seeing something like that. My battery is located in the smuggler's box; perhaps that's why I don't see it.

Know that it came off a 72 tub, I understand they are generally painted over and that many of the body shops lose or destroy them, thinking that they are metal and reusable. Only to find they are cardboard and now destroyed.

it is used on cars without air conditioning and covers the large "hole" under the main blower assembly where the A/C would have come out of the smugglers box to the dash center vent/ and drivers side vent.

If that's what I think it is, I'd buy a few. Fills a hole in the trunk side wall, aft of the strut housing, and possibly one aft of the smuggler's box.

i thought this hole was covered with a rubber cap. I have 4 of them, but only 1 in good condition.

Yeah all the early cars do have that. Good work on that piece. Unfortunately you probably won't get much for your effort, probably a couple bucks a piece but your work is artful. Now have them made in China and remind everyone that they need to replace them!

At first I thought you were talking about the cardboard piece that separates the blower, flapper boxes, etc. under the dash from the trunk. I think repros of that piece, especially in a more durable material, would be marketable.

are you referring to the small round vent pipes at either side of the trunk outboard of the ventilation mixing valves?

You da man, I'd like a couple. Now can you make that little section of drain hose that fits the bottom of the blower housing, those are NLA.

We would like to get $15 bucks a piece for these. and if Wayne is game we will sell them through our host.

Its about 50 cents worth of carboard, but I need to amortize the tooling costs and it is time consuming to form the recess. It is the same material the factory used and it looks absoulutly identical. Its just under four inches across.

robmog, thanks so much for the pic, yes I believe it is the cover for that hole on non air conditioned cars.

I'm thinking it may also fit the holes aft of the strut towers. Something similar was used there. See the photo below. Id have to measure an original one and compare it to yours, to be sure. Could yours be provided without the little half moon shaped cutout on the edge?
