Hello fellow Pelicans,
My first car was 76 special edition VW sport beetle in Marathon blue, it had sport seats and a 3 spoke steering wheel. I had paid $75 for it. I loved that car so much and couldn't figure out why, was it the curve of the rear quarter windows as they graced the rear fenders? The sound of the flat air cooled engine? or maybe it was the smell of vinyl/gas/oil/exhaust every time I got in it. Not having much money at the time, I thought that this will probably be the closest I'll come to owning a 911. I would laugh but knew in the back of my mind that someday I'd have one. A family friend had a Silver 83 SC, and I remember staring at the rear quarter window as it flowed into the rear fender and feeling perplexed. I have spent several years wondering what it would be like to own a Carrera coupe. Being in love with the style and sound of the SCs and Carrera models of the 80's, I have finally made the plunge and have fulfilled my childhood dream - I still can't believe it. I visit this site regularly and am very happy to have found it, I love reading all the threads. It is really a brilliant idea -thank you Wayne. I purchased an '86 Iris Blue Coupe, I am the 4th owner. This machine spent 127K miles in Maryland and was previously owned by 3 dedicated owners who have loved and cared for it. She comes with every piece of documentation from the time it was delivered to the first owner. Although the mileage is on the high side, it runs exceptionally well with no leaks, smoke, or excessive oil consumption. Some of the major services done were a top end and transmission rebuild. She is mostly stock with original paint. I am completely greateful for this find and pledge to keep it in great shape for the next owner. I have attached some pictures ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Welcome to the BBS.......a wealth of info is here. I can surely understand where you are "coming from" as I have been an aircooled person since my very early teens.
That is a very nice car you've got. Take good care of her and she will reciprocate. Nice color too! The main thing is to enjoy that car as much as you can! Good Luck

Great color!
It'll take days (Sometimes weeks) to get rid of that sh#t-eating grin after a buy like this. What's next? 7's to the front and finding a pair of 8's for the rear? Turbo tie-rods? SSI's? Make sure the special J-wrench, and the socket, for the fan belt is in the tool kit. Carry fuses, a pump relay, spare belt and an extra relay for the DME. Enjoy and watch the speed. ![]()

Thanks for the tips and compliments. The interior is dark blue and I want to touch up the interior and seats with dye. I've been in contact with Leatherique and they want a sample of the leather (.5x.5"). I'm not sure where to get this sample, I was thinking behind the pad on the seat, where some of the excess leather is and is not faded. Are there any suggestions on an ideal place to get the sample? The other option is to go along with the dark blue they keep in stock which is the Rolls Royce dark blue:
http://www.gahh.com/smp-v20-c06-a.php Can any of you tell me the official name of the interior color: dark blue? Navy blue?, the code S3S3 LW. I've checked some of my books and can't seem to figure this one out... I've also attached a picture of the driver's seat where you can see where its faded, the blue appears lighter in the picture than it actually is. The leather is still in tact and supple. ![]() ![]() |

You just picked up the best year/color combo possible! Congrats!
I guess I could be a little bias given my coupe is the same color.
