anybody using alum flywheel on S or S2
I'm getting ready to install a SPEC brand aluminum flywheel on my 91 S2. It's a good-looking unit with what appears to be solid construction, such as for the riveted steel face panel. The flywheel has a single Hall sensor stud screwed into it. Otherwise it has a completely smooth perimeter edge. While I would want to assume this thing is set up for the sensor on the car, I am concerned about putting it on and having a no-start situation I'll then need to troubleshoot in a vacuum of information. Anybody used one of these?

No... im curious though, how much lighter is it than the stock?
Drop forged aluminum?

Significantly lighter by feel...I have not weighed it.
I imagine it has been machined from a billet. I am mainly concerned about compatibility with the sensor system on the car; someone either here, on rennlist or 968.net turned me onto the item, but for the life of me I can't find their post in the archives on any of these sites...

A single pin on an 'S'?
Don't think so. Take a hard look at the flywheel that goes onto an 'S'. Has those blocky looking "teeth" all around the out side. These are for the single sensor that the 'S' models use.

That's what I'm getting. The flywheel has only a single stud-type Hall sensor pickup screwed into it. The stock OEM S2 flywheel has teeth all the way around it, with a space at at one point, IIRC. So, will the system be able to work with this flywheel? Sounds like I may need to call the vendor...

Fidanza doesn't make one for the 16V cars. However, Spec Clutch specifically stated today that what I have is the correct unit for the 91 944S2, but the guy didn't know more than that. I am waiting for David to get back on Monday to get a technical explanation of how it works without the square teeth.

FYI, the Spec Clutch model number for the aluminum flywheel is SP00A. Will hopefully know whether I am clear to install this thing next week...I hope I don't need to return it, it's a beautiful piece.

My original flywheel and the Spec one look almost like that side by side...the only difference being that the Spec unit's Hall stud is recessed into a flattened-out area. Looks like what you have in that pic is an 8V flywheel?
Anyone know the easiest way to compress pics to get them to post? Be specific for the semi-computer illiterate among us (uh, me)...

Unless you have teeth on the flywheel like the one on the left its not going to work.........
The 8v flywheels (on the right) works on a different setup...... ![]() The flattened out area on the one you have will make no difference... you need the teeth.

And it's not a hall effect sensor. Just a bar magnet wrapped in fine copper wire.
