944 Ignition Switch Wiring
Hi all!
I'm a newbie to this forum and I'm having a few electrical probs with my 944. Does anyone know the wiring for the ignition switch on an 85 (oval dash) car? att I've attached a picture of the pins on the switch but I need to know which wires connect to which pins by colour? Also, has anyone done a fuseboard swap out? Do you have any advice or did you encounter any problems it'd be useful to know about? Much appreciated!

Welcome to the forum. The plug should only go on one way so I don't pay attention to which color wire goes where. There are electrical diagrams on this site to help you figure out most of that. The other invaluable resource you want to check out is clarks-garage.com. There is a vast amount of good information in there. If you don't find what you need, let me know and I'll try to look it up.

Hi Razorback,
That's the problem, I stupidly removed the back of the cover with the intention of cleaning and re-crimping the contact plugs but knocked them out of the plug surround. The Haynes manual wiring diagram isn't particularly great but I'll take a look at the two you suggested. Thanks!

I do this kinda stuff all the time. I call it exploratory surgery :+) Never disassembled but you should have five wires going to the Switch. Take Digi Pics in the future newbie.

Electrical diagrams for the early 944's are on Pelicans server. Access them from the parts page.
http://www.pelicanparts.com/944/electrical/944_electrical_diagrams.htm The later 944's with the oval instrument cluster would use the diagram as pictured in the previous posting. There is a difference.

I'm going to make a start tomorrow so hopefully all will go well. I usually do take pics but that's what you get for being complacent!
