South East Fall Pelican Event
Summer is over, kids are back in school, and Pelicans have been swapping car! Time to have a get together. I've been talking with some other Pelicans and mid to late October looks good.
We need to figure out a few things: Where? When? Who's coming? Suggestions so far are to head over to the beach, crowds are down and rates are cheap, or have a cook out somewhere. A drive in the mountains would be nice, but the parkway may be packed by then with sunday drivers. What do you guys want to do?

I think we should do a mountain drive later this month... that way we could get guys from Southern VA, East TN, and North GA. There shouldn't be too many Blue Ridge drivers later this month... say the 3rd weekend in Sept. Besides I just got 7's and 8's!
Needs a wash... |

Hey guys! I'm ready for a drive too...I'd prefer the mountain twisties (we could avoid the Parkway, etc), but am totally flexible.

Either of those Sept. dates sound good to me. I'll also vote for a cookout on a seperate later date.

I'm in, I say 9/25 weekend for a drive.
SVRA is at VIR on 10/15-10/17 so we might want to either avoid that for the cookout weekend, or try and coordinate it with meeting at VIR, watching some racing, then driving somewhere for the cookout... Britt |

Keep the comments coming in guys. So far we have one with pref for the drive on the 18th and one on the 25th, everyone else is flexible. Cook out is best on Oct 23rd still (I'll be out of town the first two weekends in Oct).
We're not conflicting with any pca events those dates, though the Charlotte autofair is Sept 19th (sunday). Who's gonna take the lead on the route for the drive? Meeting at Pilot mountain worked well the last time. Don't know how many of you guys are golfers, but I could set up a golf round here in the sandhills on oct 23 if anyone wanted.

Okay, got a heads up on a PCA event on Sept 25th in Cary, so it points the drive to the 18th. Hurricane region is having a picnic on the 25th:
http://vista.pca.org/hur/oktoberfest.htm Its a conflict unless we want to drive there and join the event, it starts at 1:00. Thoughts?

Well the 18th is good w/ me. I second the Pilot Mtn. starting point. I enjoyed meeting there last time. Does anyone have an idea about the driving route?

I could go either way, joining the PCA thing in Cary is very convenient for me. Plus there's bike racing up at VIR on the weekend of the 18th, but that lasts 3 days so it's no big deal.
What about (or in addition) a caravan down to SEECARR on the SC/GA border at halloween? http://www.seecarr.org/aiken_exotics.htm Britt |

9/18 is about the only day I could make it. Maybe. But majority rules.
Some area events that may effect schedules: Local PCA is showing at AutoFair at Lowe's Motor Speedway on 9/19, Petite LeMans is the weekend of 9/25. Grand Am races at VIR on 10/2-3, PCA Drivers Ed at Kershaw 10/9-10. You've mentioned the SVRA race 10/16-17 and PCA fall tour is 11/6-7. Busy couple of months!

Thanks for the date Tom.
I think its pointing more toward the 18th for the drive. Guess I'll make and executive decision and put it in stone. I'm working on my car to get ready for the Kershaw DE on 10/9-10, so I'm hoping to break my tires in on the drive, get some miles on the car. So, as is stands right now, the drive will be 9/18, the cookout 10/23. Next decision, where are we going for both events. Pilot mountain was a good starting point for the last drive. I'll be happy to volunteer my place for the cookout, but I'm not sure everyone want to drive down to Southern pines.
