Thumbs up Pics from Porsche museum in Zuffenhausen!!!!!

Here are some pics I took from the Porsche HQ and museum in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen during my recent European excursion. The museum is a bit smaller than i thought it would be, but very cool nonetheless.

(the first one is a test to make sure I know how to do this)

The Porsche HQ from afar.

More pics.

A Porsche 356 outfitted for police duty.

Porsche 904 racer.

Porsche 908 racer.

Porsche 914/8 (one of only two made), the 959, a 904, and a Carrera Safari in the foreground.

The awesome 917.

*DROOL* The 959. I was afraid to touch it. This car has some serious presence.

Awesome 2001 996 Twin Turbo that was parked outside of the museum. Love the yellow ceramic brakes.

The parking lot that we parked in. These cars came RIGHT off the factory line and are waiting for delivery.

Another shot of the parking lot, this time with an awesome red 996tt.

Well that's all for the Museum pics. Hope you liked 'em!

When I was there, I bought a book about the Porsche museum that had 'bios' of every car in the museum's collection... about half of the cars in the book were not there when I visited (other car shows, perhaps?).

One of the cars in the museum's collection is the 1981 Porsche 944 GTP Racer. You see, when the factory prepared the 924 for LeMans in 81, they sneakily snuck a 2.5 liter 944 engine in one of the cars and the basic 2.0 924 plant in the other... seeing that the LeMans rules state that every racer must be a variant of a production model, Porsche sneakily entered the 944 in the race as a 924, but it has been known as the first 944 ever since. The car came in 7th at LeMans!!! And got a special trophy for spending the least amount of time in the pits!!!

Unfortunately, this car was not at the museum at the time.

The reason I went to Europe in the first place was because my cousin, a lawer in Amsterdam, was getting married. Since my parents have never been to Europe, we hit France, Germany, and Belgium as well as Holland.

I miss Germany....

I haven't been there since i was 8 years old when my family went to visit some cousins that lived in Munich. But we never went to Zuffenhaus or Porsche HQ. I'd love to go sometime again and rent a GT3 and drive it on the autobahn...or better yet a 1996 911 Turbo or a 2001!!!!

Por2...
The 914/8 is an incredible car. The first one was made as a birthday present for Ferry Porsche, I think. It had a detuned version of the 908 race engine, with somewhere around 260 hp. The second one is even more amazing than the first. It has two lights in each of the pop up headlights. I think the hp on the second one was around 320 or so. The second one also had a completely smooth front bumper without the fog lights, it had a round chrome side mirror, and a couple of other details. go to www.dgi.net/914 then go to pictures and I think they have pictures of the beast.
