Martini 993 GT2 at VIR GTR2002

Martini 993 GT2 at VIR

GTR2002 This is a must have sim. I wish I were more of a puter geek. There is going to be a virtual Lemans on line, all 24hrs,teams/drivers from around the globe.

Now I need to quit goofing off and go put my real car back together.

The game is F1 2002, with the Simbin development team GT racing 2002 mod.

Lots of fun stuff like brakes that don't work cold and are prone to fade when overheated, 4 different tire manufacturers each with different grip/slip rates, and a pile of new tracks.

Great sim.

Tom

ON EDIT: Simbin took down their forums and stopped hosting the file. You can find a list of working links for the GTR2002 mod here:

too slow still check it out.

http://www.sbdt.co.uk/forums/

Its a mod for F1 2002. They have a huge variety of add on cars and tracks. I added Lemans, VIR, and Laguna. There is a patch for a pre chicane version of Lemans. There are 917's and 512's to down load too.
I have done many Jack Olsen variety wrecks at Laguna. And it proves that I suck.

I am thinking of contacting one of the car designers and seeing if they could make a Pelican Parts GT3 team.

Not a team, but I painted a car:

Eric you need F1 2002 for your PC first. You then download the add on mod GTR2002. It runs "inside" the F1 game. Tom , that's freakin awsome. How hard is it to paint a car? Can I get a copy?

It isn't difficult, the paint is just a handfull of BMP files which wrap around the 3D model in the game.

The hard part is figuring out the file names. I cheated and downloaded a skin someone else did, and a white template car, added stickers and matched the file names with the downloaded skin. The car still shows up as "System Force" in the game. There are templates to make a standalone car, with driver names, pit crew uniforms and whatnot, but I haven't figured them out yet. For multiplayer, everyone needs the same car files, so if we raced online, and I was in this car everyone else would still see the System Force car.

All I did was use a photo editor (paint shop pro) and copy/paste logos from different web pages. I lifted a few logos from Wayne, plus TRE, Elephant Racing and Rennsport Systems. John Walker doesn't have a logo, but his web page has a picture of a neon sign in his front window, so I copied that. I lifted the BBS, Elbach, Michelin, Bilstein and Fuel Safe logos from The Racer's Group page, and added RGroupe and SCWDP and called it good.

I am pretty weak with photo editors, it would look better if the background of the stickers was transparent, so there wouldn't be a white box around the pelicans.

I was considering enlarging this putting this on the roof:

What do you think?

How fast of pc do you need?

I wanted to add this sim to my GPL and NFS current library but discovered I do not have enough pc power at home. I have 500 mhz Celleron with 192 meg of memory and a voodoo 4500 card and really cannot run even F1 2002. It looks like many of the current particpants are running state of the art equipement such as >2.4 mhz chips, 500 megs of memory and new video cards

Any idea what the minimum requirements are? I want the game but would rather spend the $1-2K on DE and tires than a new pc.

Hmm, you may need to do some house keeping to get rid of stuff running in the background or get more RAM. I have Win XP running on a Celeron 450 with a GeForce 2 MX 400 and 512MB RAM and it runs fine (at least for practice, lots of other cars could put a hurtin on things) It could be the RAM difference, and ram is so cheap these days it wouldn't hurt to upgrade. Also, it couldn't hurt to lower some of the graphics details.

According to Electronic Arts, the minimum system requirements are:

Microsoft Windows® 98/2000/ME/XP
Intel Pentium® II 400MHz processor or faster
128MB RAM
4x CD ROM/DVD drive
16MB PCI or AGP graphics card with DirectX™ 8.1 compatible driver
250MB free hard disk space
DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card

It should run on your system, but you will probably need to start by turning off all the effects (smoke, etc), reduce the number of visible cars, and start with a low resolution. Closing background running programs will probably help, as will a defrag if it hasn't been done recently.

For those that don't have F1-2002, you can find it in the bargain bin most places. Best Buy had the boxed version for $12 last time I was there, and you can get just the jewelbox version in the bargain bin of WalMart for $10. For all the extra stuff you can download for free, that is a hell of a deal.

At the moment there are 11 available mods, plus another 30 in work, including a classic Lemans (917s, 908s) and GTX5 (1980-82 GT cars, lots of 935's).

There is a list here: http://f1hq.racesimcentral.com

I cant find the F1 game anywhere. Anybody have a source, I've tried all the local game places and no one has it. I'll pay big money if someone can copy it and send it to me.

For $13 you can't go wrong:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000648A1/qid=1051554809/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/103-3875421-3847830?v=glance&s=videogames&n=507846

@masraum: Upgrading your RAM won't make it run any better, on a Celeron 450 you are doing well to get it to play well at all! I'd suggest a cheap socket 7 motherboard and an Althon XP1700+. Probably not much over a hundred bucks and would be about 3 times are powerful as your current system.

It does actually run really well. I haven't tried a race, but I have had a couple of cars around in practice with no ill effects.

I know I could upgrade to another mother board and proc and some new RAM, but I am holding out until I've got a grand to build another pc. Everything that I do runs well. It's actually an old Celeron 300a overclocked to 450, and my video card is also oc just a tad.

Hey Mike, isn't that entrapment? Seriousely, try WalMart. I have been to 2 of them up here, both had it in the bargain software bin for $9.99. It doesn't come in a box, just a standard CD Jewlbox.

Dude, buy a Dell. (Sorry, I hate that guy too) Check out the refurbished systems page at Dell. I did a quick search, limiting it to systems with 256MB RAM under $750, there were 350 available, with most being P-4 2GHZ or faster. There were ~40 under $500. This is with a licensed copy of Windows and support. I have always built my own systems, and that price is hard to beat.

stupid question

I could not find the Laguna Seca track at either of the sites mentioned above. Is it included in the GT racing 2002 mod? I actually have the 2001 mod installed already, guess its time to upgrade
