what is this,, it gets very hot

This loos like some type of ballast resistor that sits in with the DME and KlR.

I have noticed that it gets very hot. Too much for my taste is this normal??

What is it's purpose?

thanks

Is that photo of the DME mounting board? If so, then whatever that is, it's a hack-job by a previous owner.

Yea actually they aren't mounted at all. I will make a nice alum mounting brace for them.

Do you know what this is?

Without knowing exactly what wires are in there, I would guess that the PO of your car upped the size of the injectors and used low impedance ones. Without those resistors, the injector drivers see all that heat and then burn out the DME.

Again just guessing because I use ballast resistors with my 55lb injectors.

That was my initial thought but these are much larger wires than the injector wires.

I'll try to get a better photo of it.

Also I ran the bosch # and they are the porsche 42 # injectors so I kinda ruled that out right away.

I had done an OHM reading on the injectors and they are about 5. not the 2.4 of the std low impedance style

Ohm the ends on them to the Injectors and see if they lead there.

I'll try that, but it really doesn't look like these go to the injectors or anything related to the dme.

They were initially up above the dme and KLR.

Is there something else that requires this type of resistor. Heater,, alarm??

These are the resistors for the blower motor. They control the speed(s) of your fan.

Aren't those the resistors for the radiator cooling fans? I know on the earlier cars they were mounted under the dash, on the late they are mounted next to the battery. I have an '88, they are located by the battery, and look just like that.

The blower motor for the heater/ac has it's own resistor inside the blower motor cover. It's long and skinny and a lot smaller than the ones pictured.

Again, my info is based on the way my '88 is set up so I can't be 100% sure about yours. Here are the radiator cooling fans resistors on my car:

The wires on mine were seriously crumbling away so I replaced a few inches of them along with all new connectors. However I broke one of the small plastic things next to one of the resistors. What is it? Can I run without it like the late style car above?

The late car in this picture has them. I'm confused.
Wiring Question

Heres mine

They're cooling fan resistors. Best bet is to find some used. Try 944 ecology or parts heaven.

As far as I can tell on the 86' year there are two 0.92 ohm bulk resistors. I do not see the extra piece. This may be a owner "special" ??
